Hey all,
Does anyone know a good club in western mass? I have been looking at the Lee Sportsmen's Club or Lenox Sportsmen's Club but would like the opinion of someone who knows the area better.
Any thoughts on clubs in the pittsfield area?

Lee is great, I'm a member there. Their facilities are unmatched. Pittsfield has the Pittsfield Sportsmen's Club, which is more primitive, private, less people, less strict. It's inaccessible during the winter though. Never been to Lenox, but I've heard good things.

Lee ...pros....indoor and outdoor ranges. Trap and sleet ranges 200 yd. Rifle range, closed @ 8pm
Cons...expensive and they just raised the membership fee to over $100, rules suck, their treasurer is a real dooshbag

Lenox..pros..only $40 a yr....24 hr. Access...very cool...
...cons....no outdoor ranges...mainly a handgun range

Id love to shoot steel there, utilizing the 200 yard range, but that would probably equate an insta-ban. Would like to find some place longer than 100 yds where steel is OK in the Berkshires.

Ex-treasurer - position currently unfilled, club hired a bookkeeper. (Did you always want to be a sportsmans club treasurer? [smile] ) The membership fee is still the 2016 rate until Dec. 31st, after that they are going up. Indoor pistol range needs ventilator work which should be this month (I hope), and is open until the alarms in the building automatically arm at 10 PM. The rules still need work. They were part of the old guards attempt to freeze the range in time, and we're still undoing that mess. They are improving, but it's not going to be instant. If you'd like, I can let you know about any scheduled upcoming votes on rule modifications.

Steel on the Lee rifle range is coming, but slowly. Due to pressure from an entrenched element of the club that doesn't want anything that wasn't already there in 1962, the berms need to be upgraded before steel can be used. The 100 yard berm needs the roof put back on and the lexan hung and it's done. The 200 will get the same treatment next, but the earliest possible start would be spring. The current end plan is to have steel permanently hung on the berms, since one of the complaints from the dinosaurs was that no one should shoot "uncertified" steel, whatever that means. If you want more specifics on the rifle range, get in touch with the Rifle Chairman/BoD President through the LSA website. I'd say PM him here on NES, but he isn't on much anymore.

I'm also on the BoD at Lee, so if you have any more specific questions let me know.

Steels okay at Agawam... So is full auto, bringing guests and there's no fudd rules either.

But we only have 100yd rifle. And it's never gonna get any bigger.

From Agawam Revolver Club website:

"New Membership- Closed

Thank you for your interest in Agawam Revolver Club, Inc. membership.

The last five years has brought tremendous growth to the firearms industry and our club as well.
Our Board of Directors made the difficult decision in July of 2015 to limit additional memberships (like MANY other area clubs). Some reasons for this change are a desire to maintain safety on our ranges during peak range usage, keep maintenance manageable and reduce the risks of catastrophic outages.

Membership is currently FULL and CLOSED to BOTH new members and to those that previously allowed their membership to lapse. During the month of February, we will be processing our current waiting list to fill openings left by members that failed to renew. Waiting list additions are NO LONGER being accepted, but our waiting list may re-open after February 1, 2017."

Sigh.

Oh, Len, Len, Len.

hehe,

Come up and pay your $3 annual fee and shoot at the police range near the reservoir in North Adams.

...In western MA.

I didn't know that Deerfield was considered EASTERN MA!!! [smile]

When I worked at Yankee Rowe Nuclear Plant, I thought I was in WESTERN MA. [thinking]

I'm in Greenfield and a member of Franklin County Sportman's Club and have always thought I was in "WESTERN, MA." Blue towns are Western Mass.

You have no idea how much I love to hear this!

Agreed.

Or pink. (Ew)...

Nope. Sorry. Yellow: Central MA.

According to Mass.Gov, western Mass includes Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire Counties. The governor's western Mass office is at:
Western Massachusetts Office of the Governor
State Office Building
436 Dwight Street
Suite 300
Springfield, MA 01103
The Connecticut River Basin area is part of western Mass. The "council map" you posted is of complete Western Mass district, it's not just the "light blue."

Lee has the most complete facilities. A little too much drive time from Cheshire, where I can shoot right from mydeck.
I'll be joining the Cheshire Rod & Gun this year. I'm getting too old to keep the 125 yard shooting area behind the house cleared of overgrowth
Anyone here belong to Cheshire ?
