saw that on FS, i like the mossberg 500 w/breacher, just for looks :) since ive never shot a shotgun, but in a home defense would the butt stock of the nitro make it harder to move around corners in a tight halway etc.. food for thought. i could see a decked out mossberg being better in tight quartters.

I think the stock will help with recoil better. As for tight quarters,my house has no small hallways, contemporary style. I'd have my handgun mostly. I Just kind of want a shotgun.

I passed on the 887 because nobody made aftermarket parts. For example, a side-saddle is one of those things that's highly recommended on a defense shotgun, and something that can help a lot on side-matches where the shotgun starts unloaded.

Pistol Grip Only looks cool but you can't aim with them and at HD distances, your shot pattern is incredibly tight. IMO, a perfect HD shotgun has a youth/compact stock and a short barrel. You really need to be able to shoulder the gun and aim.

Honestly, I'd pick up a well used (but not abused) 870 with a wooden stock, extend the magazine, cut the stock to suit, screw on another recoil pad, and be done with it.

None of those alterations are difficult if you are at all handy with tools so you will be money ahead and the gun will be just as effective in both roles.

+1 I am looking to grab a Remington 870 P walnut if I can find one. For some reason Remington doesn't sell them directly to the public but gun shops will. I know there are small differences between the Express vs. Police but I like the police model because it is a little less common. Go for a 870 P magnum Mike, they have synthetic and walnut stocks and a few different styles.

Four Seasons is still advertising that Mossberg 500 with full synthetic stock, pistol grip kit, and heat shield, for $279.95. I picked one up a few weeks ago and I'm surprised they have lasted this long.

I have added a 5 round butt cuff to mine. I haven't gotten around to buying a sidesaddle yet.
