So, the front sight on my West German Sig P220 has become very loose, and I have never fiddled with the sights on a gun before so I don't know what I'm doing. Basically, I can easily push the sight out of the left side with my fingers, and as I push it back in, it eventually becomes snug over on the far right side, WAY off center.

Any advice on how to fix this? Is this something I can do myself, or should I take it to a gunsmith? Would the Sig guy at Four Seasons be able to quickly fix this?

Many thanks.
Dave

but seriously, depends on if it is a problem with the sight itself, or the cut in the slide. Either way, should be able to be resolved. Maybe "Jasons" will chime in, he is a Sig GURU

Dave, sounds like the dovetail is either overcut or the sight was cut down. The Sig sight will have a number on the side like 8 or 9 or 10. You can order the sight or find a smith with the right number sight. If the dovetail is too big, please find a smiff how knows what to do. Glue is not the answer. You can even send gthe slide to Sig in NH and they would set you straight. I would call them first. Greg

Wow, a reply from THE MAN himself. Thanks Greg! I think I'm going to call Sig and send them the slide, because the gun was actually completely cleaned and tuned up by them a couple years ago. The sight should definitely hold up longer than that. Thanks!

If the stock sights prove to be loose in the dovetail, an after market sight might work. I had the same problem with a 9mm S&W M&P Pro model. The tech at S&W told me that a bunch of their slides left the factory with over sized dovetails and that the only solution was to remove the sight and disrupt the metal on its base for an interference fit in the dovetail. He said the factory would do it, but that I might as well do it myself. So much for S&W's legendary customer service.

I bought a replacement sight from Brownells and found that I had to remove some metal from this sight to get it to fit the over sized dovetail. The end result was a tight fit that has lasted for thousands of rounds. What bothers me is that S&W could have bought a bunch of these front sights and used them to solve the problem at the factory rather than suggest the "hacker" method to solve the problem.
