Late last year I purchased a Sig Sauer P6 - German Police version of the P225, made in West Germany. The pistol arrived with major slide wear from almost 30 years of being carried. The internals, frame and barrel were almost pristine. Looked like it was never fired. The pistol is dated 9/79. I have run all types of FMJ and HP rounds thru it with no problems. Very accurate. I recently had CCR refinish the slide assembly in their Sig Black and replace the black on black sites with a set of the Sig bar/dot sites. I also replaced the worn grips and screws with original Sig P225 grips and hex head grip screws. I love this gun. It fits my hand better than most of the pistols I have owned. Only downside is the 8 round magazine. But if you can't hit something with 8/9 rounds...

I'm just wondering how many of you out there jumped on the P6 bandwagon when they were readily available? I will post some pictures later tonight - just tried to take some but the camera batteries are dead.

my p6 is my carry gun. looks horible, slide has rust from sweating on it but it shoots great and very accurate. i added sig night sights, changed a few springs and new oem grips.

I had a 225, but also got a P6 for real short money. Replaced all springs and sights on both and stocked up on mags. Also have spare parts handy in case something goes on them. Both are great and are also useful when taking a girl to the range for the first time as a single stack 9 tend to fit small hand better.

I love my P6 and carry it often. It was a gift from my father upon obtaining an LTC. This weapon, IMO, is a tank. It just runs, and runs, and runs... One FTF, ever - and it was on some reloads that were shooting low at 21'. I count that as an ammo issue, m'self. It conceals easily, shoots straight, feels great in the hand, and I feel like I can trust my life with it "To Hell and Back." [wink]

If you ever find cheap factory mags, stock up. They're $30+ usually, and the ProMags are crap (IMO) that's not to be carried with.

I picked up a P6 a few months back:

It had an older style feed ramp and wouldn't feed hollow points. In fact it wouldn't feed my flat point lead or Berry's reloads either. The rounds would hang up between the breach block and the ramp. I sent the barrel off to Customized Creationz to have the ramp "fixed". I tested it and it has fed everything. I still need to finish replacing all the springs and deciding on what hammer spring I can reliably get away with.

Great thread, as I'm currently trying to decide between one of these or a smith k frame (19 or 66). For all y'all who bought one of these, did you get it from another state, and if so was it tough to find an FFL who would do the transfer for you? Or are these a pretty safe bet from wherever you get one from? How much did y'all get yours for? I'm looking at Gunbroker right now and they seem to be right around $400.

I bought a P6 and I had it out for exercise on Sat. It was made for my hand. Very nice gun. I need to find another magazine or two though.

I'm currently using Corbon Powrball in mine - what do use in the P6 as your carry round?

Same thing! Feeds flawlessly, even with the old style feed ramp.

I debated for a long time about trying another carry round like powrball. I carry Federal HST in all my other 9mm's. The cost of testing and stocking up on another carry round was greater than having the feed ramp "fixed". The fact that the reloads that I use (Precision and Berrys 124/125gr flat points) didn't work made it a no brainer. If I didn't already have a stock of HST and my reloads were round nose the choice would have been more difficult. All you have to send is the barrel and Todd turned it around quick for $52.60 with shipping/insurance.

If I had to do it over again, I'd go this route. Didn't know it was an option when I got the gun... With all the testing I did to make sure the Pow'rBall would feed reliably, I could have bought another P6. A buck a shot adds up quick when vetting a gun with a few hundred rounds to make sure you can carry a particular load without any hiccups.

I would have bought one if I didn't have my P228 or couldn't get one. The P225/P6 is a good value when you can find one at a fair price.

You should be able to find an FFL to do the transfer. You might have to check with a couple of different ones but it shouldn't be a problem. Some FFL's stock(ed) them in this state (MA). Right, johnN?(Thanks for the head's up!)

Pulled the trigger and finally bought one from TGI on gunbroker. It was pretty inexpensive, I hope it's in at least decent shape. Should be getting it weds or thursday.

I love my 225. It just fits my hand. If I remember correctly... I picked it up from Zero Hour for ~$400.

I loved mine when I had her. Unfortunately, the 228 kept calling my name and was getting extremely jealous from lack of use.

Hanwei,
That's a great looking gun, did you refinish it? I was at Zero Hour and they had a couple 225's, but both were over $600 and didn't look as good as yours! Can't wait to get mine, hopefully it's delivered and ready for pickup tomorrow.

Nope... that's the stock finish... and it is in great condition. I picked it up a couple years ago from ZHA... and I do believe prices have gone up since then (one of the great things about guns). Anyway... I hope you get to pick yours up soon... you'll love it!

Looks like I'm gonna be jumping on the P6 bandwagon. I can get one with one mag for about $375 after all fees. Anyone know if Hand Select from J&G is worth the $20? Most people have said no when it comes to surplus P6's, but that was a while ago.

Also, anyone have the Pachmayr grips for these? They look nice to me.

I didn't get mine from JG but I paid an extra $10 for hand select and it isn't that great. I don't have a non-hand select to compare it with so take that for what its worth. Like others have said, the insides of mine are nearly new, the feed ramp is still blue and the breech face looks new.

Oh, that's a real P225. Unless someone completely replaced the hammer and slide on a P6.

Looks great. Condition wise, the surplus P6's I'm used to seeing generally have most of the finish rubbed off the slide. Internally usually like new, though.

Well, looks like I'm gonna be a Sig parent. P6 is on order. Something J&G doesn't advertise is that they'll send you one with original white dot sights for an extra $10. From what I can tell this means the gun was made around/after the time they fixed the feed ramp, or overhauled then. So I could get something very interesting.
