Major coke and heroin bust in Lowell

LOWELL — Lowell police say they teamed up with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration on a roughly two-month investigation that led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man on Tuesday, as well as the seizure of more than 500 grams of cocaine and more than 200 grams of heroin.

Police Superintendent William Taylor said police also found a 9mm handgun, loaded with 14 rounds in a magazine and one in the chamber, when they arrested Luis Lopez during a traffic stop on Broadway Street Tuesday afternoon...

Man shot in Centralville

LOWELL — A 27-year-old Lowell man was flown to a Boston trauma center after he was shot once in the abdomen by an unknown assailant in the Centralville neighborhood early Sunday morning, according to police.

<snip>

The victim told police he and his girlfriend were returning home from a night out when a suspect wearing dark-colored clothing and a mask shouted to get his attention, according to Friedl.

The suspect did not shout the victim’s name, but shot the victim once in the abdomen when the victim turned around, Friedl said.

“There was no other conversation or anything,” Friedl said...

Good thing they only give restricted LTCs to Lowell residents. We wouldn't want all those law abiding citizens out there carrying and able to defend themselves, seeing as Lowell is so safe and all.

How the hell did he get an off-list gun like the Springfield XDM in the photo?! And I thought there weren't any preban mags for the XDM?! Doesn't he realize you can't have those in MA!?

to be honest a 2 month investigation and they come up with 200grams and 500grams. not exactly a big fish, how come they never seem to go after the big guys? some other person is just going to take his place and we start over again investing huge money to go after low level people.

Same reason they say 500 grams instead of half a kilo. .. can't have people thinking they aren't working hard. In all seriousness the dea his up here are good hard working guys. I worked with them a while back. It's just a tough job to find the big fish. The system is geared against it. It's easier to get the lower level addicts to flip. And once there is a network in place it's hard to trace anything back to the bigger dealers. Junkies don't buy in bulk they are the weakest links in the chain. And somewhere down the line there is a very angry Mexican hit squad who just wants to kill your whole bloodline. I'd take jail too.

The truly big fish are supported and protected by the U.S. government. So you will never see those guys taken out unless they start to sway from the program and cause trouble.
