Hi all-

Quick question about mental health records in MA- so I’ve attended two outpatient programs for anxiety/ ocd both times I was underage (17 at most) would this show up on my records when I apply or would I be okay since i wasn’t “confined”

I'd probably check in with one of our MA 2A lawyers. Was it voluntary or involuntary admission?

Do you have either of their names? They were both voluntary - recommended by a dr but was not forced at all and I went home every evening so wasn’t inpatient as well

You are not in a database anywhere or anything like that. You were not “involuntarily committed” so there is no legal requirement to list it.

You are good to go.
Okay thanks! That’s what I was thinking- It was still a mental health institution (Bradley in East Providence) but neither time were required by my therapists just recommended to help (and I can say they did!)

thank you all! everyone on here has been super helpful!
Welcome! The LTC application question is something to the effect of "Were you adjudicated..." . Based on your info the answer is definitely no.

Also I later posted good job getting help when you needed it. Didn't want you to miss that. [thumbsup]

The 4473 you will fill out for gun purchases has a similar question if i recall correctly, and you would AOK for that (answer is no) as well.

Dude, there are times when a lawyer would be helpful, this isn’t one of them. It’s not even close to being a Grey area. You are NOT prohibited, so apply, get your LTC, and buy some guns.

Thanks! I was just a little iffy and confused at first because of the wording on the app “have you ever been committed to any hospital or institution for mental illness etc..” i guess I was just confused if I would be considered “committed” even as outpatient haha!

and since i was underage lol

I have the same concerns lol. When I was younger I brought myself to the hospital because my mom thought I was an alcoholic and told me if I "didn't go to rehab or detox" she'd kick me out. So I went to get drunk with my buddy before voluntarily going to the hospital. They held me overnight and released me in the AM when I was sober LOL. I also might have gotten a ride home from the cops when I was drunk one time but I can't remember. I'm just waiting to hear back at this point lmao. I also don't drink anymore. Haven't for atleast several years. I had my fun when I was younger. I'm 28 now

thankfully i wasn’t inpatient at all either time i went but mass be stressing me tf out 😭 for me it was an outpatient program from like 2-7pm on weekdays and i’d go home right after

For sure it's confusing. Committed = a court order placing you in a hospital/facility, "section 12'd, etc. Voluntary admission even inpatient with a temporary hold doesn't equate to 'committed'. As far as outpatient goes, by no stretch does that even come close to anything that is a problem.

thank you so much for laying everything out for me this seriously saved my ass, now i get to be anxious whether they’ll accept the generic “for all lawful purposes” reasoning in my town 😂

also where is that skiing picture?

In the old days during the interview I was asked….have you ever been treated for a mental health issue. He had to be reminded that that isn’t the question on the form. (Red town back in the day)

Would that happen today? IDK but you should know the questions for the interview.

Oh yes I know the questions, I just wasn’t sure whether or not my situation would consider me “committed” haha

You were not involuntarily committed and it wasn’t inpatient. You are ok IMHO.
