Dumb question I have. Do you use a good quality oil or grease to lube a SS pistol (.45ACP)?

I know you don't need much but I wondering if greese or oil or a bit of both?

Thanks [grin]

I use any full synthetic motor oil (Mobil1, Quaker State, whatever...). Grease lubes great but leaves a big mess to clean.

One must pay particular attention to lubing stainless steel, as it is more prone to galling than carbon steel.

I found grease (note correct spelling) deleterious, even in light quantities. Even on a comfortably cool October morn, it slowed my gun down to the point it would not go into battery. Tore the slide off between stages, wiped the grease and put a couple of drops of oil on, and I was back in business.

As for oils, I suggest any synthetic oil; Mobil 1 (NO "e") or equivalent. I would not go thicker than 5W-30.
