I just bought an M&P 15-22 and I love this tack driver. My 8 year old son grouped all 10 rounds in the 10 ring at 7 yards for his first try. He was previously using a wooden stock Marlin 22 with an 18 round tube, also a tack driver. The Marlin is heavy and a bitch to clean. It collects gun powder grit all over every moving part. The best thing about it is the 18 rounds.

The 15-22 is light as a feather and isolates the gun powder grit in one easy to clean area. It is a snap to break down. It looks like the Marlin is going to be collecting dust.

Gripes about the 15-22 are the damn pin in the stock and the 10 round clip. The stock is fine for me, but it should be adjusted down for my son. What a stupid law! What's the fear, that someone will shorten the rifle and stick it in their pocket? Man, am I tempted to pull out that pin, but I hear a voice saying, "don't do it." What a waste of time reloading the magazine is. I'm trying to dial in the sights and spending all this time reloading. I've seen all the ways to modify the magazine on YouTube, but there's that voice again. Another stupid law!

These laws castrated this great plinking gun.

I wonder if I traveled back and forth between MA and NH if there was a way to have a removable pin in the stock. If it were removable, would it still be MA legal? I've heard of these things "just falling out." I realize, I have to leave the hi cap mags in NH, so I don't go to federal prison. Jeez.

exactly the reason i refuse to buy one. rather spend my money on a 10/22 and especially for the price they are at you can get a much better gun that atleast has the possibility of highcaps though hard to get out there.

The stock has to pinned in a manner that isn't removable without the use of tools. My Windham Ar-15 came with an already pinned stock, that was too long for me to comfortably shoot. So I bought a new adjustable one, set it to where i liked it, and pinned it just like in this video.

Actually that would be a MA state offense, not a federal offense. The bigger problem is that it is a felony, so a lifetime disqualifier if you're ever convicted.

How much do you want for the Marlin then? ;)
That's what I was thinking [grin]

In MA, you also have to worry about suitability, perhaps more so than being convicted. So even if you were charged with possession of a standard-capacity magazine (more than 10 round capacity), you could have your LTC revoked by the issuing authority.

Does anyone on here actually know anyone who was hassled about magazine capacity or stock being pinned or not. It would seem to me that most cops would not be able to even tell. I know a few and to be honest they don't know a lot about guns except the one they carry. Is it one of those things that everyone worries about but is close to a non issue.I know MA is riddled with stupid outdated laws but are they enforced?

Just currious

The question is do you want to be the one they enforce them on?

For me it is not worth the risk to ignore them.

Just repin it.

Get a pair of needle nose pliers, pull out the roll pin, adjust, drill small hole, put pin back in. Seriously, it takes longer for you to get the drill and pliers out than to do it.

There's only one solution to your stock length problem: Buy another one. One pinned for you, one pinned for your son.

He'll appreciate it [wink]
