M&P 40 Mag safety

Yes and Yes. Go to Speed Shooter Specialties and order the $2.00 spring and then hop on youtube and watch the video for replacing the current spring.

The mag safety was an optional feature. Mine had it when I got it. Some looking around revealed that all you need is to remove the mag safety lever and put a spring in its place to keep the take-down lever in place and keep it from flopping around. I used a cut down ballpoint pen spring. So far it works great.

Mine doesnt have it?

Some do, some don't. To know whether it did (or did not) when it was made, look at the right side of the slide. The right side of the slide is either marked, or it isn't.

For example...

This model was shipped with a magazine disconnect, so it doesn't have the "Caution:..." slide markings:

This model was shipped without any magazine disconnect, so it does have the "Caution:..." slide markings:

N.B.: Any model may have been modified at some later point, so one can't go by the external markings alone; to know, you really have to either look inside or to test it.

OLD THREAD resurrection notice!! Does the comapct M&Ps use the same trigger assembly as the full size? In other words, will the spring on Speed Shooter Specialties work for the 40c & 45c? Any help from the M&P guys would be appreciated as I too want to get rid of the mag-disconnect "safety" feature. I watched the You tube vids...looks like its not too bad of a job.

I'm pretty sure as long as the spring fits over the pin. I've done this to all my m&ps. Used a pen spring and a 1911 mag release spring in others.

Yes. I just put one in a 9 compact a couple weeks ago. Works great.

Okay fellas, thanks for responding. Going to give it Try in both mu 40c & 45c. Let you know how it works out

I used the pen spring on mine to get rid of the mag safety, had it in there for about a year now and still runs flawless, no issues.

Thanks guys!! You were right on point. I ordered two springs from the company in the thread (a whopping $8 all told) and did the work myself via youtube. In 20 minutes I had both my 40c and 45c done…they run flawless!! Thanks again for the good advice.
