Please bare with me on this as I am new to guns and am not entirely sure of the terminology I should be using. I've been to the range several times to shoot my 40C. Each time I can physically see the top slide retract back into it's normal position after each shot. I don't think I should be able to see this happen. In other words, after almost each shot, I shoot it, I can see the rail almost hesitate to return back to its position before I can fire off another shot. I have lubed the gun on each of the four points S&W calls for on the rail so I'm not sure if that's the issue. It just doesn't seem right to me. I should be able to shoot it and not see any of this action happening or so I think. Also, a few times the rail stayed in open position after a shot while the gun was still loaded. I looked down the top of the slide and could see that the bullet was kind of jammed. I pulled the slide back some more and the round was released and was able to continue firing. I hope I explained this correctly and that someone may be of help. Thanks in advance.

I belive I have herd of a few problems potentially with the magazine not sitting correctly and causing the guns slide to lock in place. I am no expert but a complaint I have herd before. I have had 2 M&Ps and not encountered this, just occasional faliure to feed with junk ammo.

Have you only used the same ammo or various types?

New guns do need a break in. S&W also has a habit of making it rather difficult to get the last round in the ten round mag. They are deathly afraid some terrorist will manage to load an 11th round. Excessive spring tension could be slowing the silde down.

I would lube the pistol liberally; this is break in so an oily gun is just part of the process. Screw S&W's "four points"; lube every part that moves. I prefer 20w50 synthetic motor oil. To reduce spring tension in the mags, leave them fully loaded for about a week. Good luck.

Bring to Gregg Durr in marshfield he did the trigger on my .40c and has a lot of experience one of my favorite to shoot now!

i have used a couple different types of ammo...this last time was a box of reloads I bought from Flint Arms in Fall River.

Problem with the guide rod spring maybe?

Now that you mention it...I did take down the gun at the range and noticed that the guide rod spring wasn't seated properly. I fixed it and continued to have the same issue. When I hit home, I checked the spring again and again it was not seated properly....

search youtube for m&p magazine modifications. I could not load 10 rounds into my magazine, so I took out one coil and shaved down the follower's feet. All 10 rounds go in fine now.

all that aside, the crappy magazine tension never made my slide bind up. I'm not rockin a fotey tho'

When you say it wasn't seated properly what were you seeing ? Can you post a pic ?

I'll try and post a pic a little later. But what I'm seeing is the butt end of the rod was not entirely seated into the rounded notch of the barrel.

I'm going with your feed ramp needs polishing. I had what seems to sound very similar to what your experiencing.

I would shoot first round, slide would go back, another round feeds, slide comes forward and I'd feel a hiccup every now and then. The blunt nose of the bullet wouldn't slide into the barrel smoothly. It would hang up a bit, then the slide would push it in.

Ive polished the feed ramp, and all is well. This was done on my M&P 9c. I had a hell of a time shooting hollow points because of the blunter nose. Range ammo always functioned fine.

Yes...exactly!!

That is the exact description with the rounds not feeding through. The bullet was getting stuck on that ramp. Is that polishing something I should have a gun smith do or is it a DIY type of thing? Thanks!!
