Purchased an M&P 40c earlier this week. It's currently at BEC getting trigger done. I own the .40 caliber full size and think it is a sweet shooter. Bought the 40c for carry without ever having shot it (sold on reliability of the M&P). Had the opportunity last night to shoot a magazine through a compact 40c.

My concern was that it would be a bit snappy due to being a compact and .40 caliber. Saleman at LGS made a reference that it would be snappy. I was pleasantly surprised by how soft it shot. It felt like I was shooting the full size. Do others feel this way, or am I becoming used to the snap of a .40 caliber round?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I own both in the .40 and I like them both. I think there is a little more weight to the Compact than some other smaller compacts, but I like it, and dont find it snappy at all.

I've got one, my carry of choice at the moment. It is a bit snappy IMO but manageable. Had my wife try it and she couldn't put it down fast enough. Way to snappy for her.

40c was my first handgun. Installed the Apex DCAEK and love it, Lou will do an equally great job on it. I found it to be very soft shooting once you establish a solid thumbs forward grip (figuring out the best hand placement for you and tightness of grip) but even more so with the extended magazine support. It really gives it a full size feel. For HD, I keep my finger support mag loaded and for carry I use the standard flat base 10 round. Enjoy the gun, it's a great choice.

You shoot a .40!? ROAR ROAR ROAR. Chest thump! Shoot a 9mm or man up and shoot the .45!! Figured i'd say that before the rest of the .40 haters chimed in. :)

I love my SR40c BTW...

Yeah, pretty funny stuff some people say about the .40. I also have a Sig 226 in .40 and love it.
You know what they say: opinions are like a*#holes.

Thanks for the chuckle!

Hell I love my mp40 with normal MA trigger. Im due for another compact.. had been thinking sr40c or mp40c...decisions..decisions

I chose my M&P40c for a recent PPC match over my G17 because it shot better in trials. I have the Apex kit on the S&W. Despite a 1/2 inch shorter barrel and line of sight, my groupings at 50 yds were remarkably better with the S&W despite the "snappier" load. I should mention I also have the Trijicon night sights on the S&W. I know the trigger on the S&W is a huge factor, but the weight and sights might also help. Despite being a compact, it is a bit heavier than the G17. As far as the 9mm vs 40 vs 45 debate, I chose the 40 because in this state, the max capacity you can carry is 10. Why not carry the heaviest 10 bullets you can fit in a compact? If you are going to shoot it, .40 ammo is cheaper and more available than .357. The 45 only holds 8 rounds.

The reason I'm suggesting .357 Sig for carry over .40, may just be my own perception and I won't go into ballistic comparisons, but here is my observations from switching my G22 over to .357 Sig many, many moons ago...

I had a G22 that I put well over 10,000 rounds through. Never loved it and have since sold it. However, before I did, I sent it back to Glock for a service, (awesome). While it was gone, I bought a .357 Sig barrel and a bunch of ammo, (expensive). What I found was that at least one thing I didn't like about the Glock and the .40 evaporated. The .357 Sig produced no noticeable 'flip' - the recoil dynamic changed to more of a rearward recoil. I also noticed an amazing increase in accuracy. The Glock became almost rifle-like...I have no knowledge why the round never took off. In my experience, the .357 Sig was a better mousetrap in every way except ammo cost. YMMV - I'm no expert, but if given the choice to carry a .40 or a .357 Sig, I'd carry the latter all day - every day...

It all depends on the size of the gun, its recoil spring system, and how big your hands are. If you have meathooks for hands you probably won't notice the recoil/flip as much. It also depends on how much previous experience you have with handguns. (eg, pure newbs tend to have WAY more problems with .40s than other calibers, which is why they are often
sold very fast. )

It also depends on the load you are running. If you are running some dog slow 180s it is not going to snap nearly as much as a good hot 165 grain loading will.
