After a few hundred rounds in my 9c I got my first malfunction last week. I dont think it was the firearm but possible the ammo...

I was shooting 115 grain winchester white box ammo. First one or two rounds would fire without a hitch. Pull the trigger on the third round, gun goes boom as it should but this time the slide locks back and doesnt chamber the next round. Tap and rack, squeeze, boom, squeeze boom, locked the slide back again.

It did this in two different mags as well. I fired a mag of hornady pd ammo I had just to see how it handled that. Fired perfectly as expected. Upon examining the WWB ammo I noticed that the bullets seemed to be just a hair longer, and rather than rounded ball ammo, the bullet was a flat nose. Typically when I buy WWB i get the round nose and all is fine. It also fired a box of Remington UMC 115g without any issues.

Your thoughts? Thanks

I had the same problem with my bg380 I'd have to take it apart clean and lube it then it would be ok for another 50-100 rounds. Part of the reason I sold it

Are you putting any upward pressure on the slide stop with your grip? Just trying to rule out the obvious.

Thanks for the reply. However prior to that range trip I had done a complete detail breakdown and cleaning because I had done the Burwell job

I thought the same thing once it happened. To rule that out I shot a mag with my thump off the frame. I had my friend shoot it as well to rule out operator error on my end. It happened to him as well.

Jesus, if this doesn't boil me - I'm done with S&W! My guess...could be an extractor issue or a magazine issue, but that's only my best guess.

Yeah I had that problem with my hk45. No wait I've never had a problem with that. Even if it's dirty it fires all the time.

I have heard of similar issues with S&W. Seems like they made too many firearms to try to meet demand but they did do a good job with their quality checks. I am staying away from S&W for the near future.

Update. Just happened again with the round tip ball ammo wwb. The played with it some, the round isnt chambering. Put it back in the mag, racked the slide, wouldn't chamber completely. Examined the round, the brass is a hair longer than other rounds I have from the same box. I'll try to get a picture

The pictures show the slide not going all the way forward to chamber the round. The last picture shows a round on the left that didn't have an issue. The round on the right is the round in question

Well, isn't that strange! Is this first time this has happened? Looks like an ammo QC issue to me.

Yeah, put a micrometer on the rounds that won't chamber....

It's hard for a manufacturer to produce a chamber that will all of a sudden go out of spec....

Yes Winchester. I'll contact them tonight. I've seen another thread now that I'm thinking about it. I don't remember if it was here or another forum, someone had longer rounds like mine. Except they were firing ok, just jammed on the extraction

I've called Winchester before as their ammo is having QC issues. I had a round significantly shorter than the rest that I did not fire due to concerns about pressure. I'll see if I can upload a pic and put the micrometer to it later today

Also had issues with winchester lately...

I've also had a few cases per value pack that has nicks at the end of the casing, and on those rounds only I've had feed issues. Bad ammo, not your gun

Was at the range today. Happened again except this time it was in this guys 92fs. Took the round out and fed it through mine no problem...

I contacted Winchester on Wednesday, haven't heard back
