A general question, does anyone shoot the M&P Pro or Long pistol for competition? I don't think either the L or Pro models are available in MA yet or ever will be. I shoot an M&P 40 FS for Steel Challenge, IPDA, etc. and really like the gun (after Apex mods to the trigger, sites, etc.) and wanted to get feedback on how the FS compares to either the Long or Pro series M&P.

Just curious for feedback.

I have Underwhere's old M&P Pro. I think he tried using it for IDPA, but had teething problems with it (search for his old M&P Pro thread). It runs fine for me at the range, and looks great with the cerakote job he did on it.
I could be coaxed into selling it for a fair price.

The Pro models are trickling into MA. I have one in 9mm. Nice gun, great sights and the trigger doesn't need any work. The only down side is that, at 28 oz, the gun is a little on the light side. Steel framed guns will afford a littlle more recoil control and less muzzle flip. The M&Ps that I own have rather tight chambers; you need to drop test your match ammo to avoid any "embarassments".

I have seen the Pro used in matches at HSC. Atleast one person is at "master" level with it. Don't know if any work or mods were done to the Pro for matches.

I use the M&P 9fs with the traditional M&P Ma. Apex installs. No issues with the M&P but a few with my technique and scores [smile]

I have a few M&P Pro's that I shoot in IDPA and USPSA. Both have many rounds on them...

The pro vs the FS for competition... General opinion i feel most people will do some trigger work on either so the nicer trigger on the pro vs FS is not really an advantage.

The green FO sight thats comes with it... I rarely see comp guns with factory sights.... front or rear...

The longer barrel sure it offers an advantage.. How much...... I think most would shoot the FS just as well as the pro. I feel its the shooter not the gun making the large differences. And in action shooting where we are not having a bullseye comp the difference is negligible..

I am a big M&P fan I love the Pro... Its all I will shoot and most likely will continue to shoot them till I stop.. The M&P Pro is made for gun porn...

also suggest that if you find a used M&P FS for a good price pic it up, shoot it get and shoot it often.. And if a Pro shows up the transition from the FS to the pro is pretty natural

Ahh my ESP and limited 10 minor toy..

Great summary and advice. I have the M&P FS 40 and have been shooting it for several years now. Just curious about the Pro series vs. FS. Your post answered most of my questions.

* I assume the MA Pro's all come with the 10lb trigger as opposed to the Pro's stock trigger..
* Is that the Apex FSS trigger or the newly released AEK trigger? I installed the AEK trigger on my FS and really like it. The trigger shoots at 4.5 lbs consistently now (with the DCAK mods). If it is the FSS trigger, I assume you really like it... have you measured trigger pull....

thanks

I am not a gun dealer nor do I know all the SKU's I shoot cardboard over and over :) I do not think any of the M&P Pro's have a 10# trigger. The trigger is ok on the stock one.. I believe TheRoland shoots one with a stock trigger setup. And by is own admission he is a kick ass shooter!!

That is the FSS with the competition spring set(which apex does not recommend) combined with a RAM assist. Its a VERY short and light trigger. I would estimate it in the 2# range.. I need ALL mechanical advantage I can get :)

Keep shooting that 40 you have if a Pro shows up get it.. Its a great gun and they seem to be getting harder to find even in free states.

There are no MA (compliant) Pro's. [sad] You need to find one already in the state and do a FTF on an FA10.

The stock Pro's trigger still could use some work. The stock plunger is rough so it makes for a noticeably gritty take up.
