It seems to be the general opinion that if you buy an M&P in MA, you need to get a trigger job done. If you send it out to one of the 3 or 4 gunsmiths mentioned throughout the forum for a trigger job, how does that effect the S&W warranty?

The reason I ask is that if I were to buy an M&P, I would typically do so by buying new so as to get the S&W warranty. But if I'm going to void the warranty by sending it out for a trigger job, I might be better off picking up a used one.

If my trigger-job-done-M&P develops a FTF or FTE problem, would S&W know that the gun's been worked on and would that prevent them from fixing the FTF or FTE problem under warranty?

Hmm....My understanding from reading a few posts on this.

1. Gunsmith work does not void the warranty
2. S&W Warranty transfers with the gun. So buying used also has warranty

What M&P you looking at?

S&W's warranty does not transfer with the gun, but if you don't register it with them, they don't know that it's been transferred.

S&W will fix a gun that has had a trigger job. However, if they determine that the altered parts are the cause of the problem (very unlikely with a trigger job) they'll pull them.

Also, if you send your gun back for something unrelated, include a note telling them to leave your custom trigger work alone.

Another approach might be to keep the stock parts when the trigger work is done and install them when the pistol is returned for service.

I will let yopu know.. I am getting ready to send my M&Pc back for that exact reason.. I have had FTE's, since I got it.. They are getting worse, and now I'm having double feeds.. I did have a trigger job done, but the problem has been happening before that.. As of right now, I think the M&Pc's are a waste of money, but my opinion might change when it works properly.. [smile]

I put a couple hundred rounds through mine before getting the trigger work done to make sure there were no initial issues.

I was told that if you send it back to S&W with trigger work done to it... they would have to send it back with the factory settings? Is that true?
