Well this thread is not about if I should buy a Sport. I have done my share of research about it's features and what it's missing to cut costs. I plan on buying one but my question is what your experience in buying a used one or a used gun in general. With a family, work and my fishing addiction I probably won't be shooting as much as most avid shooters. But do plan on getting out as often as I can. One budget I've been saving for a while but will be willing to wait and save for a new one.
I have never owned an AR so this would be my first buy after moving here and getting my LTC with no restrictions.

Thanks.

There is nothing at all wrong with buying a used gun, or any gun in general. They are tools! which means they are repairable, and serviceable. I personally had an M&P15 sport i bought new and the gent i sold it to loves it, never let him down.

I love my Sport. It is just a good entry level AR, and can teach you how it works, disassembly, uppers and lowers, etc. The Sports are a good inexpensive carbine (MSRP of $739 and I have seen them priced well under $700 in local gun shops) if you don't mind not having a chromed line barrel, dust cover and forward assist. They do have a melonite coated barrel with a 1/8 twist, that should give you good performance with a wide range of bullet weights from light to heavy offering some advantages over a rifle with just a 1/9 twist barrel. The melonite barrel coating is supposed to be durable. I have not really seen any bad reviews of this rifle. I love mine but really only have about 400-500 rounds through it since I got it last Christmas. Good luck on your decision.
