M&P Trigger Pull Help

I just purchased a S&W M&P 40 and a Glock 27. I went to my local club last week and was able to put most of the Glock rounds near the middle but was unable to get close with the M&P. I find the long trigger pull very hard to keep the gun steady ...

Thoughts on what i should do would be greatly appreciated ? i.e. have the trigger customized ? learn how to shoot ?

Get a trigger job. its almost necessary on the mass guns. I got one and it made a big difference.

Mass sold M&Ps have a 10lb plus trigger...get a trigger job.

If you do a search you'll see that there is no shortage of discussion on this matter.

Replace the trigger with a non MA version and start from there. I'm still waiting for my parts to come in from Brownells so I can't give firsthand testimony as to the results, but I've heard from many that this will make a huge difference. The MA 10lb pull apparently varies a lot. Mine was probably approaching 20lbs.

Some will say a gunsmith can fix a MA trigger without changing parts... from my experience I don't believe it.

Burwell also provides a do-it-yourself guide that is very straightforward. It helped smooth out my M&P 9c's trigger pull.

Dan Burwell did a great job on my M&P40. I had him tweak the trigger and texture the index finger area. Took about 2 1/2 weeks from shipping it to him and getting it back. Communication via email was very prompt, which I think is important.

I have always had good experiences with him, some others report otherwise, I don't know how germain to the issue of M&P trigger jobs this is, but he is the only gunsmith in the Northeast that I will use for work on my Colt Pythons and if I trust him with my Colts I would definitely trust him with an M&P if I had one.

I have heard really great things about M&P's done by Greg Derr.
