Hi All,

I'm relatively new to firearms and to NES, and I wanted to seek advice from the experienced here. I have a full size M&P9 with ~800 rounds through it and the take down lever no longer stays down by itself unless I hold it. It occasionally will stay down if pushed just perfectly. It now usually just pops right back into place without even moving the slide. Then when I go to take the slide off I have to hold the lever down while taking off the slide. It did not do this when new. Anyone ever have this happen? Is it normal? Thanks for any advice.

Just a guess. Did you take your M&P apart say to install an Apex kit and loose the take down lever retaining wire?? It is easy to loose that thing it is tiny!! Just a guess based on the info you provided.

Best of luck!!!

Nope I had Business End Customs do my trigger job.

So I guess this is happening to a few people. Just seems like something that shouldn't be accepted as "normal".

I had Business End Customs do my trigger job also, just did 200 rounds through my M&P , did break down and complete clean. No Problems then or ever with take down lever. Have about 600-800 rounds through it. Good Luck

I would PM Lou at BEC, He is the Man with M&P's

If it was working before your apex kit and is not now, it's possible the little retaining wire is out of place. The compacts all do this, but most full size do not, so it seems.

I just look at it as an undocumented feature. I would rather it be tricky to take apart than come apart when you need it. Also, as a lefty, I just hold it forward with my trigger finger.

With the takedown lever facing down. Right where that brass rod is touching it inside the frame. There is a bump from when it was cast. Your recoil spring hits this during takedown and kicks it back up. Sand it down or hit it with a dremel bit for about 2 seconds. It's super soft metal.

Edit: it's not just compact models either. I've done it on two FS 45's and FS 40. I believe all the models use the same takedown lever.
