When my father graduated from Somerville high school he joined the Marines during the Korean War. He was at boot camp working in the buttes and waiting for the string to end so he could send up the target. When this projectile dropped in front of him. He picked it up and placed it in his pocket.
I played with this when I was a kid. The tip is just as hard and pointy as the day it fell to the ground. I assume it’s some type of an armor piercing round. To me the insert tip is unbelievably hard and pointy, like some kind of tool steel. I just can’t imagine anything stopping this, especially from the big 30-06 case and the long Garand barrel. I still have it to this day.
Thank you all for all of your military service.
