MA gun laws (poster)

If I wanted to put all the MA gun laws in one place, how do I find them all?

Here is what I quickly found here on NES and on GOAL:

http://www.goal.org/legislation/quickoverview.html

940 CMR 16.00: Handgun Sales

http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/269-10.htm
http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/269-11.htm
http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/269-12.htm
http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/269-13.htm
http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/269-14.htm

http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/140-131.htm

What else is missing?

What I am wondering is, just how many laws there actually are. I guess we should include all the hunting laws as well, right?

Does this cover it?
Sections 121, 122, 122B, 123, 129B, 129C, 129D, 130, 131, 131F, 131 of chapter one hundred and forty
and sections 10A, 10D, 10E, 10F, 12, 12A, 12B and 12D of chapter 269.

Any other laws missing relating to owning, carrying, transporting, using, buying, selling, fixing, shipping, registering, reporting, or any other use of firearms in MA?

It looks like you're still missing a bunch.

Go to google and type in

"site:https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/ firearm"

That will return everything from the malegislature site with the word "firearm" in it.

If you use a small enough font, you may be able to fit it all on a billboard.

BTW, I tried sending you a pm, but your inbox is full.

The ones I posted were given to me by GOAL. Could you help out, and let me know what's missing?

Anyone want to help fill in the blanks?

I posted these on another thread yesterday. If you still have my card, please give me a call, I want to discuss this with you.

Wow, that is a lot. You sure about those? Does anyone know how to find out who proposed a bill and when? I'm very curious as to when this one became law, why it did, and by who.

Thanks.

I wish the state would start obeying their own laws first:
CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC PEACE

PART IV. CRIMES, PUNISHMENTS AND PROCEEDINGS IN CRIMINAL CASES

TITLE I. CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS

CHAPTER 269. CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC PEACE

Chapter 269: Section 11. Printing statutes for posters; display

Section 11. The state secretary shall, annually, cause to be printed, in English and in such other languages as he may deem necessary, and in large letters so as to be easily read, for use as a poster, section one hundred and thirty-one of chapter one hundred and forty and sections ten, twelve B, and fourteen of this chapter. Sufficient copies of the said posters shall be sent to the clerks and to the superintendents of schools in all cities and towns for their use as herein provided. The city or town clerks shall cause posters received by them to be displayed in such places as they may select, and in such numbers, according to the population of the city or town, as its clerk may deem expedient. The superintendents of schools shall cause the posters received by them to be distributed among the schools within their jurisdiction, and in such numbers as they may deem necessary. The cost of preparing and printing the posters and of distributing them to the various cities and towns shall be paid by the commonwealth, and the cost of placing or affixing them in each city or town shall be paid by that city or town.

This poster hasn't been printed since 2008 as far as I can tell...

Looks like I missed that.

I've put together a document of all the Mass General Laws with the word "firearm" in it. So far I've got 173 pages. I realized there are other statutes that may contain the words "rifle", "shotgun" or "gun". That includes another 22 sections.

I don't think this will fit on a poster.

I put together a list of all the gun laws I could find on the books in Massachusetts and put them here

http://www.attorneyfoley.com/uploads/Massachusetts_Gun_Laws_2013.pdf

I had planned to print them out and distribute them at the hearing scheduled in Worcester, but that became unwieldy. The PDF file is 205 pages, and I don't have that much toner.

I'm considering self-publishing this on lulu.com or some other self-publishing site.

I would like to print copies and send one to each of the 200 Massachusetts legislators with a note saying "Before you consider passing more gun legislation, please familiarize yourself with the laws already on the books". Unfortunately, I don't have the coin for that, so I'll just let people download and print themselves.

Either email them, or better yet, do up a business card with the URL, a brief blurb, maybe the Second Amendment on the other side, and of course, a QR Code, and an email to contact you or someone for more info. Business cards are portable and not as expensive, and might actually get looked at.

Make sure to put on the top "Common Sense Gun Law Reform" or something else catchy like that.

By LAW, these posters are supposed to be printed EVERY YEAR. I think the last one was 2008.

Anyone go to the Statehouse Bookstore lately? Could you check if they have a new poster yet?

Thanks.

Was looking up the gun law poster, and found this gem:

Are you including the made up laws the AG seems to have for us as well?

Oh, and your link is no longer working (most likely LONG gone!). It might be nice to still reference that.

It would be even better to see this updated. Imagine if everyone asked their state Representative and Senator to please print these out and have ready for review for the next hearing?

I fixed the link. (Actually, I just uploaded it to my new host where the url points)

I just looked. I sold exactly one copy, but never received the $8.16. I don't know what the minimum is for a payout, but I'm not too interested in updating it for another $8.16.

I located the Word document I used to generate it. I'll be happy to email it to you so you can update it.

For now on, whenever there is a new gun law proposal, I am just going to sent the link to the state reps/state senators.

You could sell the debt to a collector for $0.10 on the dollar and clear almost enough for a cup of coffee. Well, if you sold a second copy, anyway.

Just an FYI that this link still seems to be working. Keep in mind what laws have changed since 2013. (No, the AG "interpretation" is NOT a law change!)

Does anybody know when this poster was last printed? No, not the handout that goes along with it, but the ACTUAL POSTER, as REQUIRED ANNUALLY BY LAW? You know the one which is REQUIRED to be posted outside the city/town clerk's office and in the schools? Anybody work near the Statehouse that could find out?

You need to be specific about the law, as to whom it applies to.

One suggestion, gun laws for beautiful people in MA will be much more concise.

Contact your state rep and ask them, seriously. I've seen the one by our town clerk's office a short time ago but I ignore it and don't look to see the date code at the bottom of the wall of text (that absolutely nobody will/does read)!

"REQUIRED ANNUALLY BY LAW"? Laws that do not have a penalty for violating them mean nothing. Jack.

"REQUIRED ANNUALLY BY LAW"

"The licensing authority may not prescribe any other condition for the issuance of a firearm identification card and shall, within 40 days from the date of application, either approve the application and issue the license or deny the application..." - Two for one sale in that one.

"I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."

"Of course the drop zone is big enough."

"The check is in the mail."
