Making a Hi Point .45 carbine accept 1911 magazines

Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of what the best way to make a hi point .45 carbine accept a 1911 magazine is?

I've seen some videos where people modify the magazine catch, and others where they modify the magazines. Anyone actually done either of these things?
