Man beats up girlfriend and runs from police, then dad comes over. Happy ending

We all own guns because we like them and at the end of the day we have them to defend life specifically our own as well as our loved ones, that being said I sort of cringe when the talk of repercussions of shooting a home invader in Mass cones up.

There is a pretty good chance that it will never happen and if it did it would be a once in a lifetime event so I'd like to think that there would be no hesitation by a gun owner anywhere to use the appropriate force with a gun to any home invader, Massachusetts or not

While you might not get charged, you will be "under investigation" for an extended period of time. And that time will very likely be directly proportional to your ability to fund counsel.
The ride ends when there are no more funds to extract
Murder generally has no statute of limitations. The risk of any self defense shooting is that even though you were not charged "that day" it doesn't mean some purple haired-dork-glasses life-hating vegan ADA doesn't reopen the case down the road and just go "someone died, someone goes to jail".
