Reluctantly, I've decided to part with a Marlin Golden 39A. For those who have never shot one you have not really experienced living. This is a rifle which can and should be passed on for generations, a break down lever action rifle of .22 bliss. Tube fed, shoots LR and shorts. I believe it's a 24" bbl.
This one has bbl is marked "JM" on right side of bbl. S/N starts with "S" which google-foo research shows to be 1956 manufacturing date. Yup, that's right, next year will be it's 70th birthday.
The good: insides are immaculate, cycles smooth, shoots like a dream. Best trigger on the Marlins that I own. It's hard to describe....when you handle the rifle you feel the quality and craftmanship from days gone by. Take down receiver matches seamlessly. The old school mill marks show the quality. Nice wood forend. An absolute classic rifle. Has a scope mount on top of receiver. Has the original butt plate and little white/black circle thing on stock.
The bad: It is/has been a shooter. If you are looking for museum quality please stop reading here. There is spotty surface rust on left side of receiver and the left side of bbl looks like someone/thing might've dropped a couple drops of blood on areas (you could make up stories to tell of combat in the "squirrel wars"). Not deep rust or anything but definitely disrupted bluing. Someone before me decided to dip the buttstock in black somewhat rubber type paint. Does provide solid grip so I understand why it was done (practical use, not slippery if wet) and is well done but not "classic" looking. Doesn't appear to be hiding any imperfections to stock. Looks like previous owner scratched SS# by the S/N as well.
Price is $600 ...should be more but due to surface imperfections keeping "reasonable". Prices on G-Broker are all over the place ..much higher than $600. FTF eFA-10 in WMass. No trades please, I've overspent on firearm and other hobbies, need to replenish the reserve funds. If it doesn't sell.... well my granchildren will have yet another toy.
