Massachusetts Bill HD.4420 "An act to modernize gun Laws"

I want to put this sign on my lawn but I’m in the camp I don’t advertise my business. This says hey this guy has guns. I believe I have a Karen as a next door neighbor. Really having issues with this. Advice would be great. Beat down for not wanting people to know my business not so much.
She might have guns too.

Good .
Never back up an inch.

This is the sort of dystopian nightmare that people who support the ideas hidden in bills like 4420 are trying to force on all the citizens of the Republic. First disarm the police and then disarm the citizenry. This is not the type of world that I wish to live in and neither do the rest of my family. The struggle against this type of legislation will continue as long as it is required to do so.

You have to do as your conscience dictates as we all have different levels of risk aversion.
I live a lawful life and I don't worry about my beliefs offending anyone, also my property has cameras, alarms, and attack cats (no seriously they'll bite your ankles).

But if you did get over your "issues" and put the sign up, if your neighbor did then come over to complain you could always hit her with your purse. [troll]

Sorry I'm just teasing and I understand your reticence. If you don't want people to know you support 2A then don't put it up. You don't owe anyone here anything either.

Me? Well, I'm going to but a sign up in clear view of my flags and my neighbors and the rest of the world can like it or not.

BTW Guess which one of these flags recent events have prompted me to consider taking down? I will give you a hint, it's not the yellow one.

If this true and not sarcasm, Out them in the parking lot. They have no jurisdiction there and can be harassed and humiliated. Let the store folks know that they are there.

It is sad when something like this can be said about a state agency, and it probably could be true. Fortunately, I made it up. they wouldn't let us know if/when they do.

I have caught those Jack Boot Thugs at a Fireworks store in Hinsdale, NH. I called him out and told him that he had no jurisdiction to be there. I had already moved to New Hampshire and was still employed by the Commonwealth as an EPO. Oh, he reported me. There was nothing the agency could do about it, and I didn't care. I was getting ready to retire.

Living in MA among deranged leftist DimocRATS and other assorted worthless criminal scum (who would break into your house in 2 seconds for one dollar), I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to keep ownership of their guns out of the public eye. 🤔

I just emailed Sen. Kennedy's (my state Senator) aide about an in-person meeting with him. I met with my rep. previously, but have not heard anything back from my senator's office after a call, several emails, using his website's contact form and a physical letter. It should not be this hard to contact someone who is supposedly working for me.

I laughed, but it's sad. They see themselves as "leaders", not "representatives" for the most part.

My local congressman is Buddy Carter. Fairly typical politician as far as I can tell.

But, I've sat at a table with him at my local gun club, seen him there shooting skeet. My club is privately owned; the owners are pretty well connected to the local power structure, and they invite him.

So, when my wife had a problem renewing her passport, went way past their stated delivery timetable, I sent an email to his office. An aide from his office called me that day, got details and said she'd try to help. A week later my wife's passport was delivered.

My Senator on the other hand - I write him and tell him that I'm opposed to certain laws - and I get back "I support the 2nd amendment, but... blah, blah, blah" and he continues by telling me that he values representing me and he votes for laws I don't want. Going to try to get him out next election.

Is thst your backyard or your front yard?

Front yard, but it is complicated as the entrance to my house faces the driveway not the street itself. That is the view you would get looking from the street. When I took that photo (which is cropped down to the flags) I was standing in my front yard, but the yard is about 1/2 an acre, so when I get yard signs, like the one for HD4420, I put them at the end of the driveway just in from the street.

The first house we ever owned was broken into while we were both working overtime. Unfortunately, the criminal was still in the house when we arrived home. He went out one door as we entered another door. Despite following his footprints thru the woods in the snow he got to a car before I could catch up with him to explain my extreme displeasure with his invading our home.

About 6 or 7 months later the local police department asked us to come to the station to look at some stolen items they had just recovered during the course of an arrest. The jewelry was gone naturally, but my wife recognized a pair of combat garters that her father had worn during his 3 tours in Vietnam that were in the jewelry box which itself was taken. It was our understanding that this scumbag was charged with 16 house burglaries spread over multiple towns and ended up doing only 16 months in jail. So much for justice for decent citizens who are victimized.

We do not have any decals or bumper stickers on our car, truck or property indicating that we own firearms. The only signs that we have in the house are these:

I remember(start remembrance harp music)when Gov Mel Thompson ordered MSP arrested for loitering while doing that.

It's been going on for years.
Sitting right in the parking lots taking plate numbers.
N.H. even warned them a few years ago to cut the crap

And knowing that there is little to no risk of being severely prosecuted for doing so.
Yes.....I know.....trying to interject a little common sense into the political discussion surrounding the 4420 proposed legislation seems like a never-ending battle that at times makes one wonder if all our effort is worth it. We know what disarming the citizenry will result in for all the decent people who live in the Republic and not just for lawful gun owners.

We are not blind and unable to see what has taken place in other parts of this country where they have disarmed gun owners and given criminals a free pass because it is the right thing to do in the name of wokness and some pseudo sociological theory called.... of all things..... restorative justice. Whose justice is being restored? Certainly not the victim's.

We are not deaf to hearing the pleas from the victims of inner-city crime who, while shouldering the brunt of state sanctioned victimization, are pleading for more police protection and judicial enforcement of laws that have been enacted a long time ago but are not enforced these days because they are considered racist and politically incorrect today.

This is the most stunning part of the entire article....read it twice:

'There is nothing compassionate or progressive about allowing criminal behavior to fester and rob Oakland residents of their basic rights to public safety,' they wrote.

'It is not racist or unkind to want to be safe from crime. No one should live in fear in our city.'

BASIC RIGHTS TO PUBLIC SAFETY............ WANT TO BE SAFE FROM CRIME NO ONE SHOULD LIVE IN FEAR.

The individuals who want to dismantle the Second Amendment constantly claim that they are ONLY DEMANDING COMMON SENSE ENACTED LEGISLATION. Their definition of what constitutes common sense seems to be laws that prevent decent folks from employing effective tools to be safe from crime and not have to live in fear on a daily basis.

Their definition of REASONABLE GUN LEGISLATION is that you should......and will......be forced to depend on the government for the safety of your families and yourself. Do they mean depend like in Illinois that did away with cash bail and just recently signed a law ALLOWING IMMIGRANTS WHO ARE NOT AMERICAN CITIZENS TO BECOME POLICE OFFICERS???? That kind of dependance is not the sort of thing that I seriously am willing to trust when the well-being of my loved ones is at risk.

The federal government has decided in its infinite wisdom....... now there is an oxymoron if ever there was one......... that they have the legal right to not only tell us what vehicles we can own but...of all things.....what appliances we can buy all in the name of some so called Green New Deal. Even George Orwell would be hard pressed to come up with a fictional world as incredibly dysfunctional as what we can plainly see around us every day when we leave our homes and go out into the world at large.

The only course of action that we can rationally undertake is to constantly inform the legislators that we do not wish to turn this Republic into an east coast version of the disasters like Oakland, L.A., Chicago, New York City and a host of other cities and states who have embraced this woke nonsense in what currently passes for America in 2023. We need to support as well as we can .......given each person's financial state of being .......organizations that are dedicated to fighting for what we view as REASONABLE COMMON-SENSE gun laws that.....wait for it.......actually address the main part of the crime situation......THE CRIMINAL. And we need to stay together and support each other no matter how long and difficult this struggle will be.

For everyone who thinks there will be a quick injunction :

This crap will drag on for years, regardless of Bruen.
After the way the NAGR v. Campbell preliminary injunction hearing went, I don’t think anyone believes there’ll be a quick injunction at this point. Not surprised that this happened in NAGR v. Lamont either. SCOTUS is our only hope.

Sure, but it’s a long time waiting for that bus to come by. You hope the same guy’s still driving.

Notice this bit from the judge's ruling (emphasis mine):
“Plaintiffs’ proposed ownership of assault weapons and LCMs is not protected by the Second Amendment because they have not demonstrated that the specific assault weapons and LCMs in the Challenged Statutes are commonly sought out, purchased, and used for self-defense,” Arterton wrote in Flanigan v. Lamont.

Look at this attempt to cram by Bruen by the judge. She doesn't want it proven that any AR-15 is covered. No, she wants it shown that the specific Anderson-lower-with-18"-barrel-with-midlength-gas-block-and-a-MagPul-30 is legal. It's the "approved list" game writ large.

Current events would seem to indicate that my hope for a rational discussion about the underlining causes of crime with our elected officials is essentially a foolish hope on my part, but I can't think of any alternative method to try and at least slow down the headlong rush to completely legislate the second amendment to becoming nothing but a fond memory in the minds of cranky old farts.
I definitely share your frustration. We should never stop preaching the truth regarding the root causes of crime. The truth is the truth, and even some who seem predisposed against it sometimes come around, or at least begin to question the steady stream of lies they've been fed from the other side all their lives (Piers Morgan and the current Mayor of NYC come to mind). The simple fact of the matter though is that many, many very powerful people simply don't have any interest in the truth, and RELY on lies to perpetuate their power. The ONLY way to deal with these people is to defeat them, with the understanding that there will always be MORE people like them to defeat later.

We have to recognize the difference though, between these two types of people. We also ALWAYS have to look in the mirror and be very, VERY careful that we don't become these people ourselves. As I said in my last post, we're humans, therefore we're ALL sinners and are ALL prone to foregoing the truth when it's inconvenient.

Perhaps the threat of the hidden language and actual intentions buried in 4420 has served to remind all citizens of good will that there is no guarantee that what we collectively see as our Constitutional civil rights is not necessarily an opinion shared by every person who is an elected official these days.

We are certainly not the first generation to fight for our 2A rights and based on what I see on both the state and federal level we will not be the last generation to fight against the industrial grade gaslighting that the so-called progressive left appears to be quite experienced at employing during the national discussion on this polarizing topic.

My hope is that our collective efforts may result in the window being open just enough to clear the noxious fumes of totalitarianism from the room so that future generations are able to enjoy the same 2A legal rights as our grandparents did. I know......I know it's just a dream.....but one has to start somewhere.......

Can't say I'm surprised when their initial Lamont filing pitches the same childish fit as in Campbell.
15. The term “assault weapon” as used in the Statutes is not a technical term used in the firearms industry or community for firearms commonly available to civilians. Instead, the term is a rhetorically charged political term meant to stir the emotions of the public against those persons who choose to exercise their constitutional right to possess certain semi-automatic firearms that are commonly owned by millions of law-abiding American citizens for lawful purposes. Plaintiffs refuse to adopt State’s politically charged rhetoric in this Complaint. Therefore, for purposes of this Complaint, the term “Banned Firearm” shall have the same meaning as the term “assault weapon” in CONN. GEN. STAT. § 53-202a(1).

Having seen this - I retract the aspersions I pointed towards Atty Couture when NAGR v Campbell first came through. It would appear this is the fault of NAGR, not him.

Circuit split, here we come!!

These cases have to work their way through the circuits first. So far, preliminary injunctions have been denied at the trial level in the 1st circuit (Rhode Island) and 2nd circuit (Connecticut.). In the 7th circuit (Illinois), and injunction was denied by one judge and granted by another only to be lifted by the 7th circuit pending appeal. In the 9th circuit, a judge granted a preliminary injunction in California which was then stayed, but in Oregon a different ban was upheld at the trial level.

Eventually, the Supreme Court won't be able to dodge the issue like they did with Highland Park, but since these are preliminary injunctions it may well take 3 years for cases to get that far.

Which is why HD4420, or its successor, can’t see the light of day.
