When trying to explain to a non-shooter why 2A supporters are so publicly against the 4420-laundry list of blatantly unconstitutional civil rights violations as the proposed bill spells out it is not uncommon to run into the response....oh you are just being overly dramatic.....your tin foil hat must have fallen off.
I gently remind them that one does not need to go very far back in recorded history to see firsthand evidence of governmental over-reach in the not too distanced past.

Gov. Baker et al. invoke executive order to close all gun stores and gun ranges in the name of addressing the public health issues stemming from the covid virus. This was.....as everything in the Republic is......for the safety of the children. It also was a completely illegal revocation of our Constitutional civil rights and even after a court found this to be so, there were no consequences for the commission of the act itself.

Some news reports indicated that the military was employed to enforce this draconian policy.
We are faced with regular reports of unelected bureaucrats making up their own laws and regulations about all aspects of how we are supposed to live our lives according to their opinions of the right way to do so.
Yes, we still....at the moment......have a Constitution and a Supreme Court but in light of the current administration's ignoring both facts one can be forgiven for wondering just how long it will be before we really do come under some form of political martial law aimed at those individuals who refuse to bow down to the Party's dictates.
If you think that this is not a scenario possible in the near future that is a belief that you are certainly entitled to. Me......I am off to buy some more tinfoil while it is still available at the grocery store.

I just wasn't conceivable to a normal human mind.

And that is why I no longer have a great deal of trust in the honesty and integrity of the political class when the subject turns to potential firearms legislation.
It is my understanding that prior to the 1998-gun law enactment there were approximately 1 1/2 million LTCs in the Republic. After the law was passed it was, I believe, reported that the number dropped to around 600,000 active LTCs.
If those figures are in fact accurate then that would lead a reasonable person to believe that the entire intent of the law had nothing to do with addressing the issue of crime and criminals and everything to do with trying to legislate away one of our most important Constitutional civil rights.
I was once told by a friend who was a business school professor who taught a course on negotiation for future MBA Titians of the Universe that the process of negotiation is supposed to result in both parties leaving the table believing that they each had achieved something of value to them during the course of the process.
Frankly, I can not for the life of me see how any negotiation between 2A supporters and the political class will result in anything......anything at all......having any inherent value to us as a result of entering into such a process.
The answer to the question of freely giving up any part of our Constitutional civil rights is an emphatic NO. PERIOD.
Contract law itself relies on this interpretation. If only one party benefits, a valid contract has not been formed.

I certainly would agree with the social contract benefiting only one party in this specific instance and I can find no validity whatsoever to either the process itself or the resulting end result.

If you’re getting ghosted, you’re not trying hard enough to communicate with them. You should be trying all different methods of communication. Email, form letter, phone, etc. Even meet with them in person. Lots of these legislators have office hours or attend public events. There’s absolutely no excuse for not being able to at least get a response from them.
I think its an intentional headfake, so they can slide in a one-liner bill that is devastating but that fudds wont blink twice
on because they don't know what an 80% receiver even is....
So I guess that would be a no for you.

It's a slow boil thing. Get rid of civics, get rid of history, Half the population doesn't know there is a bill of rights or care.

I called, wrote a letter, emailed three or four times and used a "contact us" form on my state senator's website and have not been contacted back. Mine is a dem. I went to the office hours of my rep after emailing her aide (who replied within an hour), so it looks to be dependent on the senator/rep.

Unfortunately, you are 100% correct in that there is a great deal of ignorance about this country's history and its citizens' rights and obligations. The sad thing to me is that even when you point out this sorry state of affair to those unaware of our national political past the usual answer seems to be that they could care less about such old fashion things as historical reality because those things have no relevance or impact on their present day to day lives.
If we are unable to stem the rising tide of political authoritarianism that this country seems to be awash in these days, then those who choose to ignore our historical past will be sitting right next to us on the bus to the political re-education facilities with a deer in the headlights expression on their faces wailing how did this happen?
It happened because you willingly chose to remain living in your comfortable state of ignorance and chose to ignore both the societal warning signs and the concerns expressed by the people who you derided as wearing tinfoil hats to block the moonbeams from Mars.

All of them refused any thought of a meeting.
Several pro gun people from OTHER districts had their assistant call me back and let me know that even though they didn't directly represent me they would be happy to meet with groups of concerned people.
Keep your powder dry and your eyes open folks - there isn't anything on the public calendar but you can be certain that they are secretly working against you
