Seems like diminishing returns. No agreeing with shoplifting but the store didn't probably care so... brandishing, nearly getting run over, I hope the car parked next to him has insurance because there's probably a couple grand there. All for what in the best case scenario, a thankful store manager.
Cops will probably be more apt to charge the guy with the gun than go after the shoplifter.
Fuc*ing clown show this world has become.

Another case of being a good witness is best. Up next. Charges against the armed citizen.

He's a cawp.

Even better choice is to mind your own business and walk away. Companies like Lowes just write off the shoplifting losses as "shrinkage" and pass the cost onto the consumer via price increases. Doesnt seem to affect their bottom line much. If you come forward as a witness, you will have to appear in court in front of the suspect and his supporters, who may just decide to follow you home. Not worth it.

So, how normal is it for a cop to draw his weapon and point it at a suspected shoplifter that hasn't shown to be a physical threat yet?

The car is running and in reverse. The law considers an automobile can be a deadly weapon. The car is under the control of the bad guy. I'd classify the bad guy as a physical threat.

The cop could have been easily ran over. The shoplifter didn't care who got in his way to get away

Should be easy enough to find that car. You know. The one with the driver's door stuck open toolin' down Rt 128...

How do you explain that to the wife when you come home with her door all f'ed up? Shoplifter must have watched one to many videos of the crap going on in San Francisco. Thought he could do the same....
