The licensing situation is not equal for Boston residents. Perhaps the citizens who do not have "restricted" LTC's in Boston can read this and yawn. Those who have restricted Licenses are indeed "grateful" that we have a LTC but nobody I've talked with is in the least bit happy about Boston restrictions. There is a growing movement to expand restrictions originating in Boston and bring them to nearby Towns. Boston was able to get legislators to "OK" a ban of AR/AK style rifles in Boston and that movement has legs in other towns. How many people, on this forum, said words similar to : "Well that doesn't affect me because I don't live in that $**thole of a city?" I'm fairly certain the gunowners in Westford aren't "bored" reading about proposed restrictions on gunowners.
According to a news report in the weekly Bulletin, Boston City Councilor Rob Consalvo is pushing for GPS tracking in guns and has reached out to Smith & Wesson. This gimmic will make it easier to locate "stolen firearms." And that's how it starts.
Mayor Menino, whether we like him or not, carries a lot of influence both in the city and beyond. If I were a Melrose resident, I'd be very uneasy about the Mayor of Melrose meeting with Menino's gun grabbing group. The Boston Mayor is on his last legs and I am fairly certain that he is going to push hard for more anti-gun legislation. He's already met with newly elected, anti-gun Senator Warren. There are many state legislators that would want Menino's legacy to be rewarded by passing restrictions on gun owners, not because it will cut down on crime; rather it is what the Mayor of Boston wants.
Best regards.

It seems a lot more Mayors have signed on with the Menino Madness.
If you think this will not happen in Your town, you may be right.
Here's a blurb from the Globe with a list of the mASSachusetts mayors who are calling for more restrictions.

Do these mayors even know why they are even signing up ?

Someone (GOAL? NRA?) needs to reach out to Worcester's mayor before he signs on to this group. He was on the radio today, and sounded like he might have half a brain. Someone just needs to reach out and invite him to the range or something. Anything. But it needs to come from someone "official", as in an organization.

Do town COP's have to go along with what their Mayor says? Sgt. Goc in Melrose is EXTREMELY 2A friendly and almost always issues unrestricted class A's. I suspect the COP is also. I'll bet he won't like the mayor treading on him.

I know Mayor Menino calls the shots in Boston. It seems to me that by accepting the Boston Mayor's invitation to join his anti-gun group, these mASSachusetts mayors are signaling that they believe in the anti-gun rhetoric and will work to influence policy not only in their towns but state and nation wide as well. Believe me, I'd hate to see Green Towns turn Red. GOAL has given us a "Head's UP" by posting this thread. No matter what our LTC's are, restricted or not, we all need to be concerned about this influx of new interest in the Mayor's Against Guns.
Best regards.

I think the mayor of Melrose is jockeying for some future political appointment. The licensing officer here is a good guy and chief has been very helpful.

So, to throw the ball back to GOAL. GOAL, what have you done to educate these mayors, and bring them over to the correct way of thinking?
