Just wanted to pass it on...

Dear Friends of Safer Communities:

Political analysis of the Senate’s failure to pass commonsense gun reform this week pointed to the "intensity gap” as a key factor. Right or wrong, lawmakers perceive gun violence prevention advocates as more passive, less vocal and less of a political threat than grassroots gun rights groups.

We know our side outnumbers the tiny minority radical activists who oppose any and all responsible solutions to prevent gun violence. We know that our views on guns and public safety are more in line with mainstream America. But the painful lesson of this week’s defeat is that being on the right side of the issue is not enough.

If we want to see meaningful progress on gun safety laws in Congress and in Concord, we need to redouble our efforts. Now is the time to mobilize your outrage, and make your demands bigger, bolder and very, very visible.

New Hampshire grassroots activitist are already mobilizing supporters across the state. A listing of upcoming actions, organizing meetings, and public events is provided below. We hope you'll join us - or let us know how we can help get the word out about gun violence prevention organizing efforts in your community.

URGENT: Action Needed on NH "Stand Your Ground" Repeal!

The NH Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a public hearing on HB135, the bill to repeal New Hampshire’s 2011 “Stand Your Ground” law, on Tuesday, April 23 at 9:00am, State House Room 100.

Based on the 5-hour HB135 hearing before the House Criminal Justice Committee last month, we can expect the Tea Party gun rights agitator crowd to be out in full force and prepared with talking points that repeat misinformation about what’s in the bill. IT IS CRITICAL that HB135 supporters make a sincere effort to match their numbers and intensity on behalf of passing the repeal.

If you are able to attend the April 23 hearing and want tips on preparing personal testimony, please email [email protected] – well send you fact sheets and other resources.
If you can’t attend but can send a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee stating your support for the bill, we’ll be happy to deliver it for you on the day of the hearing.
If you have not contacted your own state Senator to voice your support for HB135, it is imperative that our Senators hear from you. We are hearing reports that six Democrats in the Senate are planning to reject the repeal because they have been inundated with calls and emails from gun rights fanatics and are not hearing from constituents who support the bill. A state Senate roster with phone and contact information is at the end of this email – please contact your state Senator today and urge them to pass HB135.

Thank you for taking action to prevent gun violence -

144 Main Street I Nashua, NH
Sign up on Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/events/287774884689955/

Senator Ayotte turned her back on her constituents and the families of Sandy Hook by voting to kill a bi-partisan compromise bill to require background checks for internet and private gun sales. The time for silence and apathy on commonsense gun policy is over - bring your righteous outrage to our protest vigil in Nashua on Saturday. We’ll have some rally signs available but please bring your own (plus a couple to share) if you can. Questions? Email Judy at [email protected]. Coordinated by Project for Safer Communities NH and Organizing for Action.

Radical pro-gun rights agitators will be turning out in force for this hearing – it is critical that we match their numbers and intensity. My best guess: Zandra Rice Hawkins, founder of "Granite State Progress"

Judy Stadtman, our favorite Portsmouth Poet, is still at it. Hilariously, the SaferNH Facebook page has in all this time garnered only 324 "likes", and has maybe three sockpuppets actively commenting on Judy's activity. I can post one cat picture and get more likes and commentators than that!

Judy often signs things with "Judy Stadtman of Portsmouth is the co-founder of Project for Safer Communities New Hampshire", anybody know who her co-conspirator is?

Interesting question. A quick search turns up her name and the name of that thing that she "co-founded" but there doesn't seem to be any other info about her little .org. [thinking]

I like how they put radicals as any one that opposes the bill. You have to shut these people down right off the bat. Call them out, blast their Facebook page, burn their rainbow flag.. Besides isn't radical "hate speech"?

I always laugh when they call any conservative a "Tea Party Radical"...

There is almost nothing in this world that makes me angrier than when people refer to "common sense gun control measures". It is NOT common sense. It is YOU trying to trample on MY rights. It is not acceptable. It is a scummy thing to do and an attempt to make you magically turn the world into some sort of flowers and fluffy bunnies paradise. Guess what? If you get rid of all guns, people will return to killing each other with rocks and sticks. You don't like guns? Don't buy one. Stay the hell away from my rights. God. Ok, rant over. Time to get some coffee!
