I've been doing this for years with my tools, metric gets red, SAE gets green, wait is it the other way around

Paint marker, eh. If the marker tips are fine enough, I've got an engraving on a Mossy 500 that I'd like to fill in.

Any best practices or things to avoid before I get started?

A fine detailing brush would work better. I was just lazy and don't have a steady enough hand. Just prep before you paint. All that gun oil would make the paint hard to stick. Afterwards you may have to change to a non petroleum Clp like frog lube.
