I have a Mossberg 500A that I've never shot. I'm not really a shotgun guy. I recently removed all the camo tape the last owner had wrapped around it, and I've cleaned it up a bit. It's actually in better shape than I thought it would be. Stock is beautiful and plenty of blue on it.

There are three barrels. One says "Accu-Choke", on says "modified choke" and one says "slugster"

I have some boxes marked 12 GA Mag 1 OZ. RIFLED SLUG that I'd like to shoot off to check this out. I presume I want to use the "slugster barrel"? Could I use either of the other barrels for rifled slug?

If I go with this as my primary home defense gun (currently I rely on a Remington 11-48 is is a tad unweildy) would I use a No.4 or 00 Buck, and the Modified Choke?

How about some 7 1/2 or 6 shot. I use the modified choke in my 870 express. The use of the slug barrel makes sense. Is it a rifled barrel ?

The Accu-choke has removable choke tubes. Most likely came with a modified tube in it. Its like a do all choke.

Yes, shoot slugs from any of your barrels just don't push a slug through a full choke. Pull that bad larry into your shoulder tight!

I'd shoot it at what ever distance you think you'd need it for, with birdshot, buckshot in #4 and 00 and slugs. Slugs and buckshot are not fun to shoot. If you've never shot a shotgun at "across the room distances" you'll probably be surpried at how tight the pattern will be

I used to shoot slugs through a 16 ga with a long full choke barrel and I never encountered any problems.

If that mossy has a barrel with removable choke tubes try putting an extended rifled tube in it. It is a big improvement over a smooth barrel.
