I didn't see any threads specific to this comparison. Apologies if I didn't look hard enough.

Basically, I can get either one of these for the same price, give or take $10.

Fit and finish seems great on either.... both are backed by a good company.... the MMR has the benefit of a low profile gas block, quad rail, and free floated barrel. (And dust cover... for what that's worth..)

Thoughts?

When the Sport was the only real low end game in town, I think it was the best option because you really don't need a dust cover, now it sounds feature for feature the best deal is the Mossberg. On the other hand the Sport has a Melonite finish including the barrel. Many have said this is a superior barrel coating and finish. The Sport does not have a forward assist and neither so it appears, does the Mossberg. Stoner didn't put one on the original AR, it was an Army thing. 1:8 twist rate for Sport, 1:9 twist rate for Mossberg, that might mean something, depends on who you talk to, lotsa opinions on that one. I think these horses are fairly evenly matched, so I might be inclined to go for price, but I think today, I'd lean a little more towards the Mossberg despite no Melonite and 1:9 twist. YMMV, either way, I don't think you could go wrong.

Thanks for the reply... yeah, that's why I'm having trouble deciding... they really are pretty even.... but you're right on the melonite finish. I have heard a lot of good things about it. I'm not sure if it's worth trading the other features, though....
