That's how risk assessments work, you consider what might happen (make stuff up) and then mitigate those risks.


If you violate the storage facility contact (civil matter), you are now storing valuables in what many would consider an insecure location. Which is also not a crime. Stupid but not illegal.


If they were then stolen, the crime you could be accused of improper storage, a charge that gets raised and dismissed (with the help of competent attorneys) frequently in MA. This is a reality. It's not that different from the cases where a motor vehicle was stolen with a gun in the glove box. I don't have the details on the recently dropped John Jeffries charges, maybe they were properly stored when the vehicle was stolen or they couldn't prove they were improperly stored. But he appears to have benefitted from some back door negotiations, regular morons won't have that luxury.


Has it happened due to a storage unit theft, I have no confirmation of that. It's not unreasonable to believe it could or has happened.
