I just obtained an STG556 in a trade, admittedly for the cool factor. I did a search here on the forum about these rifles and now I am getting a little concerned [thinking]. So my question to any of you who may have one is how has your experience been with it? Please help me calm my fears!!!

what are your specific concerns?

Just general reliabiltiy concerns, From what I was able to search a couple of members here had some "issues" with theres a while back like cracks and feeding problems. I don't know much about them but from all appearences it seems to be a well made rifle. Apperently these have generations like Glocks, how can you tell what "gen" you have.

I have one. It's great when it works. But if an issue ever comes up, customer service is non-existent.

Seriously. It does not exist. The company producing them went bankrupt. Thankfully aftermarket parts aren't too hard to find. Yet.

You were the guy with the cracked gun, sent it back and they went under or something like that, right?

These rifles apparently at the moment are out of production. MSAR was having extreme difficulty staying afloat in the rifle section of its business. It was having trouble for a while, from what I understand.

Anyway, they are supposed to be coming back into production some time this year, which is great since they are cool rifles. MSAR has been known for dismal customer service, but I think they were in the process of fixing the issues, hence the pause in production.

I'll be buying an E4 as soon as they come back into production.

someone i know has one and told me horror stories about the MSAR customer support, that they are total shit. hopefully they correct this because the rifles are definitely cool as hell. didn't quite fit me but it was still a fun rifle to shoot.

Well I took it to the range yesterday, put about 200 rounds of XM193 and XM855 with no malfunctions.....SFSG. But then I lost it in a boating accident..Damn!

What happened?? The MSAR you got your hands on didn't happen to be the one that was posted on the classifieds here, was it?

Ive got an E4. It is a cool rifle. MSAR customer service is terrible, but as far as I know you can still buy original replacement parts from MSAR. Ratworx also makes replacement parts, and they are probably better. The ratworx bolt uses AR extractor components so they are readily available. If it is a good shooter it should be fine. Keep it clean and make sure there is lube on the guide rods they can crud up if you do a lot of shooting and they may bind. Also clean the piston after 500-600 rounds. It will work fine for 1000 rounds but gets harder to clean. It is my favorite rifle to shoot, and everyone I take shooting wants to shoot it as well.

You lost your MSAR in a boating accident? Wow, thats a story I would love to hear.

+1 for Ratworx.

I bought an MSAR E-4 several months ago, probably have 200 rnds through it so far with no discernable issues. I have heard customer service at MSAR is non-existent, however Ratworx has been stepping up to the plate and taking care of alot of issues.
It's a fun rifle, definetly turns some heads at the range. I think my biggest issue thus far is just getting used to it after being trained on the AR platform
Mine seems somewhat finnicky on which mags I use, doesn't seem to like my 20 rounders, loves P-mags.

I'd say have fun, and good luck with yours, but if it is currently sleeping with the fishes I guess find a qualified NES diver and happy hunting!

I have probably around 1200-1400 rounds through mine, an STG-556 which takes AUG mags. Most of the ammo has been wolf or silver bear, along with XM193 and some M855. It has been 100% reliable, no cleaning or lube other than what it came with from the factory (yet). It even has the 1.5x scope that they stopped making due to issues, however mine has worked fine. It's a great gun and definitely one of my favorites, and one I've wanted ever since I saw Die Hard!
