I just picked this one up and had to share. This wood still has the original gloss to it . Such a time capsule with a shiny bore. This one has moved to be one of my favorite k98s of a pretty large collection

It’s a bolt mismatch but other than that it’s all matching to the screws. The cleaning rod has no numbers. Not sure if it’s supposed to. It appears the soldier that brought it back may have carved his initials in it. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

The bluing is outstanding on such an old rifle. It beats many of my younger ones. The seller still has dibs if I ever sell. I told him I agree but don’t hold your breath :)

Feel free to post your original mausers in this thread!
Please No scoped bubba jobs or things that make us collectors sad.
True sniper mausers always welcome !

I am so unworthy to post...I have only one decent piece left. The younger sister of yours, a matched 1939, also an i-block. All parts are still numbered and proofed, although the stock has switched to laminate. In early 1939, the inspector proof has changed from e/214 to e/37... the middle band wears e/214 with the rest e/37. National proofs have switched from Weimar to Nazi in 1938. Sauer was known for a very high polish, but thin, finish. This piece has faded from heavy use to about half finish, but survived seven years of war intact.

My newest addition and first duffle cut. A BCD 4. This one has an odd 45 degree cut behind the barrel band where it was cut. I think it adds to its character. Very happy with this one. I also have to give credit to 40Cal for the amazing photography!

Spanish Mauser. It had a Redfield 4x strapped to the top. I am in the process of giving it a good scrubbing as there was still traces of cosmoline or some other grease on it. The cartouches and armory markings are all worn off. I inherited this from my dad's collection. It was most likely someone's deer rifle. It even had the Uncle Mike's ammo sleeve on the stock.
I'm hoping to get it out to the range in the next couple of weeks.

Added a new member to the Oberndorf family today. Thanks to 40cal. It’s 1940 42. It’s very well worn and has that used and taken care of look. Few amateur pictures

Last one for now, not the best pics but a very rare gun. A matching Argentine 1891 that was diverted to the Spanish in 1894. These guns lacked the Argentine crest, they were purchased by the Spanish in 1894 and used first to put down a rebellion in Morocco and then in Cuba during the Spanish American War.
