Bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 off my buddy. Got a deal on it because the end of the barrel had some damage to it, and it was one ugly ass gun.

It came equipped with a 28" vent ribbed barrel and the ugliest ATI stock I have ever seen. Also came with a Mossberg factory pistol grip.

Tackled the barrel issue with a $10 hacksaw from Walmart, and swapped out the ugly ATI stock for the Mossberg pistol grip. It also had 2 beads on it, so even after cutting it I still have a bead sight. What I ended up with was one badass little shotgun... and all for $80.

Good deals can be had on shotties! I picked up a Mossberg 500 12G 30 inch bbl fixed full choke last summer from a friend. His brother won it in a raffle many many many years ago and it had never been fired. I thought it was a bargain at $150 and I have actually grown to love this gun for shooting trap. Yes the fixed full choke is a bit of a disadvantage but I'm hitting low 20s with it.....and the full choke actually patterns quite well with 3 inch turkey loads.....throws a slug well and can hit a paper plate at 75 yards consistently even just using the front bead only. I would say I got the swiss army knife of shotties with my mossy!

Yours definitely looks like something you'll be keeping in the bedroom closet though!!!!

find yourself a used shoulder stock. Pistol grips may look cool but suck to shoot.

Yeah I agree, they are a PITA to control. It came with an ATI collapsible stock with a pistol grip, but it was the cheap(er) model and not the Strikeforce. I do like how the PGO setup makes the gun very short and maneuverable so I might keep it like that. I already have a Remington 870 with a shoulder stock.

This gun will probably just get loaded up and tucked away in a closet somewhere. Maybe under the couch.

Yep. My 500 came with both. We put the pg on it one day, shot a couple of rounds each, and took it right back off.

12 G has enough recoil with a full size buttstock.......I've never fired a PG shot gun but don't really think I'm missing much.

dam... I need new friends. Best I ever get is a free fan from someone or a 'flatscreen' tube tv cheap (that wouldn't even fit through the doors of my house).

It's not as bad as you'd think. Just don't make the mistake I did when I first shot a PGO shotgun and ohld it down by your side like Tony Montana with his M203. Wrist hurt for a week after firing 3 birdshot loads lol

I hold it up in front of me kinda like a handgun. Recoil doesn't hurt at all but the gun jumps enough that it makes control and follow-up shots pretty difficult.

He paid $100 for it, and I was going to give him $100 until I noticed the damaged barrel.

I'd take that for $80, hell yes. Shooting a pistol grip shotgun can be a little painful but stash it away with a few boxes of 00 buck for SHTF/ bugout situations and you'll be glad you did if you ever actually needed it.

They do suck to shoot. But we used to use one as an extended bang stick when we went shark hunting on my friend's 21 foot Whaler.
It was a perfect shark gun with the pistol grip.
Nothing takes the fight out of a Mako like a 2 3/4 inch buck shot shell. And cheap is good when you are talking salt water living.
