My AR Conundrum

Ok, I do not even own an AR yet. Here are some thoughts for those who may read this.

I like AR manufactures in this order...

1. Noveske
2. POF-USA (piston)
3. LWRC (piston)

When they become available and have MA post-ban configurations, I may be interested. I like the high quality and great fit and finish I have heard about those guns. The piston AR's sound great due to the need for less maintenance.

I am just not sure about the reliability over the long term of pistons. Then again, I do not want to have to do a super cleaning job for a direct impingement system.

I will eventually have problems I think, since machines can fail.

So, that brings me to this idea...

The S&W M&P 15 has a lifetime warranty. It may be less elite and tacticool than my preferred AR's, but they stand behind their product. An AR is a tool not a museum piece. Perhaps this would be a good choice...

I need the piece of mind of great service!

If anybody has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Get a Yankee Hill AR, the fit and finish is with the best of them! Then there are a few gas piston systems out there for right around 500.00 and put one of those in and your all set. Cost, under 2000.00.
Keep in mind that if you could find a POF or LWRC for under 2K go with them!

Go with the Noveske and don't look back. If your thinking of a Piston then LMTs and LWRC are pretty good choices.

Yes, I am. I inquired about a MA AWB config.

After doing some googling I think I like LWRC better than POF-USA.

So now it is between Noveske and LWRC.

If you're gonna blow the money on a Tier 1 AR, then get a preban lower... then you won't have to deal with neutering it. Course I'm sure it's fun finding one now.

If I was going to get a crippled AR, I'd go out and get an M+P 15FT and be done with it, save for maybe changing the stock over to something less dumb than a fixed collapsible... For the stuff it has on it it's a good deal for the money.

To go on what Mike said, if you get a Pre-ban lower. Noveske uppers are not that hard to get right now since it is what the factory is focusing on. Local s hop here has had 1-3 noveske lowers in stock throughout the rush.

Not trying to hijack the thread but, speaking of piston AR's, what are the thoughts on Bushmaster's piston uppers? Has anyone had any experience with these? How would they compare to Reptile's choices?

Bushmaster does not have a good reputation for consistent quality control.

Yup - amen. There are pre-ban lowers out there - you just have to look. I spotted one in our own classifieds a few days ago. Noveske is the way, but also look into a LaRue Stealth....
