Was shooting my 6920 and the rifle failed to fire. I stripped it down and found that the hammer was locked to the rear and would not drop. I dissassembled the lower and found a primer lodged in the trigger group. Was able to fix it on my own but it sure would have sucked if someone was shooting back

Ammo was winchester ranger 55 grn.

After reassembling the lower I ran 3 30 rounders through it and she was good to go.

Been shooting Ar's for years and have never seen anything like this happen.

Has this happend to anyone else?

Yeah. Same happened to me. At a reduced-range CMP match (fortunately in a slow fire stage!)

Ammo was '92 Radway Green SS109 with stake-crimped primers. I've fired 750 or more from the same lot with zero issues, except that one. Would have been a major problem on a rapid string, or if there was return fire.

Yes I had that happen.

I saw someone sells a little rubber gasket you can get to put around the trigger group to keep primers from
falling in. Not a bad idea.

It has happened to me before using federal ammo, known for lousy primer pockets especially when it's reloaded.

Wait until you get one lodged in the bolt carrier and you can't disassemble the rifle, that's when the real fun begins.

I've seen it happen to people in matches who run hot loads and brass that's been reloaded one too many times. I've popped primers but luckily haven't had one get lodged in the trigger group yet. (knock on wood.)

I've seen it at least a half-dozen times.

It can also make a rifle act like a full-auto, which is really fun (not).

If that was an AK all you had to do was kick it a few time, and your good to go.

I am glad I got it going in under 5 mins with a punch,
but I am gonna have to spend a lot more time on my long gun to handgun transitions.

Nope thats weird.

primers pop sometimes, just happens to puke it right into the workings of a ar.

Patron kind of answered the question I was going to ask. Even if the gun works OK, can't help ammo failure which leads to gun failure in this case.

Interesting. Just shows how it is good to keep things clean and otherwise functional, and to know your gun inside out.

Thanks for the heads up post!

You didn't bother to read the 8 people who have had similar things happen to them prior to your post, did you?

Actually i did i was responding to the op's question has this happend to anyone else? in 7,000 rounds through my ar's it hasn't happend to me. So chill out home slice.

I picked a primer out of my trigger group upon cleaning ,after test firing my new LRB
Build.
it did not jam up though.

Looks interesting, but not for me.

Brownell's says:
"Installation requires removal of safety selector, hammer, and trigger assembly...."

I clean and lube my lower and trigger group often, and don't want to have to remove this thing to clean it. I don't shoot 3-gun, so if mine locks up I'll deal with it.

However, I will keep it in mind.... perhaps even purchase one just to have on hand.

So here's a question.

Is this just a reloaded ammo issue?

Has anyone had a primer pop from a 1st quality, American made, brass cased piece of ammo?
How about military style ammo with a crimped primer?

Don
