Just got a new flattop and I need a pair of BUIS. I'm runnin a Magpul FDE color scheme but the MBUS sites from Magpul look really short.

Anyone have experiance with the MBUS or any other quality flip ups? (That would match theMagpus FDE)

Thanks

The only thing that will match the Magpul FDE color is the magpul sights. The troy FDE color is a lighter tan.

What do you mean by "the MBUS sights from Magpul look really short." ??

They are folded down when not in use, and flip up when you use them. When they are in the "Up" position, they are the same height as any other rail mounted flip-up sight.

My upper is the Stag-15 Model 3H.

I bought this upper because I plan on mounting an optic and I dont want the standard front site bulding into my optics POV. So I planed on getting a flip up front. Now that I have the upper on the gun, I'm noticing that the rails on the gasblock are on a lower plain then the rails on top of the reciever.

I'm worried that the MBUS front site (when mounted on the gas block) wot be tall enough to meet up with the rear. (Unable to cowitness as well)

I know one option is to get a quad rail and mount the MBUS on the end of the handguard, but I don want to leave my gasblock rail empty, its perfect size for a front flip up.

I know Troy makes some front sites that are extra tall, would something like this make up for the lost hight on my gas block?

Yes. You NEED a front sight that is DESIGNED to be mounted on a lower gas block like yours, because of the obvious height difference.

As far as the MBUS's go, you cannot mount them on "reciever-level" gas blocks anyway, they would (and do) melt.

Troy has the front flip up sight newly available for 2010:

Midwest Industires also has had a front flip up sight for lower gas blocks such as your for a while now.

Hope this helps! [grin]

I talked to Troy Industries yesterday about their Gas Block Flip Up Site and they said it should be ready for distribution at the end of March. sf3pox1 is correct. You need a front site that's specifically made for a gas block. Otherwise your site plane will be off. YHM also makes a gas block flip up front site.

Its about half way down the page. YHM makes good products. I have this site on my RRA LAR-8.

Thanks for the links guys. This is a big help.

Is the extra 50$ make the Troy worth it?

Are any of these spring loaded?

I have YHM on two of my AR platforms. They work great and are very stable and accurate. I also have a set on my LAR-8. I will admit that the rear YHM flip up site is to high when folded down to fit under my Leupold in a LaRue LT104 mount on the LAR-8. I will be swaping that rear site out with a Troy as it has a lower profile.

For backup sights I really don't think the extra $50+ is worth it. Get the YHM QDS sights, apparently a gas block version will be coming out soon.

I was thinking. Im not crazy about he gas block sites, and I'm planning on getting a Quad Rail anyway.

Would there be an issue with me mounting a regular BUIS Front on the end of the quad rail and just leaving the gas block empty?

I know it will shorten the site radius, but only by about an inch or so.

Yea you can do that, it is fine.
