Every night for the last couple of months I've been searching Gunbroker for the same items. One of those was a Colt Commander, and a couple of weeks ago I got lucky... real lucky. I happened across a listing for a Lightweight Commander that had just been posted about an hour earlier. The gun had a couple of slight issues, but the price was low and I had the money, so I hit buy-it-now. Today I received the pistol, and imagine my surprise when my full-size 1911 grips wouldn't fit. Apparently, this is a C.C.O. by another name...

When I bought the pistol, I recognized the enhanced features (high-cut frontstrap, lowered and flared ejection port), but it's been so long since I owned a 1911 that I didn't recognize the officer's size frame. That was a happy surprise.

The pistol came with some extras. The original grips and slide stop, plus an extended slide stop, 4 magazines, a bushing wrench a few allen wrenches, a holster, and the original owner's manual and warranty card.

So is this like the S&W Compact ES model? Basically a Commander barrel/slide on an Officers frame?

Looks very good! Let us nice how it shoots...

I don't blame you; they just look weird on a 1911. I did like Houge grips on the Ruger P94 I used to have though.

I've always loved the feel of Hogue grips, since I bought my first set for a S&W model 10 at a gun show in 1982. For open carry/ nightstand use, I'd probably leave these on, but I'm not a big fan of rubber grips for concealed carry.

Very nice looking gun. I am moving in the 1911 direction myself. Not sure which model I want yet.

I'm planning to buy another 1911 within the next week or so. I spent way too long without a 1911, so I want to have another one before I send the CCO off for custom work.

My new grips arrived today. Since my father had Jay Scott pearloid grips on both his 1911s, I wanted a pair for the CCO. I picked up a new pair in white pearl with Colt medallions. They look good on it now, but I think they'll look even better once the pistol has been hard chromed.

It's a beautiful day today, so I thought I'd take a pic of the CCO with the pearl grips on it. I know they're not what most guys here would run on their 1911s, but my dad had Jay Scott pearls on both of his 1911s. THey make me smile every time I look at them.

While I was outside, the mailman brought me a little package. Could it be...? Yep, my new Wilson Combat round butt MSH...

And a shot next to the original, just to show how much of that sharp corner will be removed. This will improve the comfort level greatly.

I took a drive down to Clark's Custom Guns this morning with my brother-in-law. It was drizzling when we left home, but I went ahead and packed the earmuffs, shooting glasses, and a couple of boxes of ammunition. The weather cleared soon after we left town, which was nice. We got to Magnolia (Arkansas), and my brother-in-law saw a sign that said "city shooting range". As it turns out, Magnolia has an outdoor range that is completely free to use. That was an unexpected bonus for the day. The CCO shot about 6 inches low at 20 yards, but more or less on center. There's play in the slide to frame fit, and the lockup is lousy. The fun part was trying to guess where the brass was going to land. I don't think two shells landed in the same zip code, but at least none of them went down my shirt. Still, it was nice putting some lead down range, and I now have a much clearer idea of the work I want to do to the pistol.
