Not again.
I picked my brand new from the factory S&W 22A-1 on Thursday and took it to the range with my girlfriend tonight.
Something was not right about the rear sight, but I didn't think much about it until I got there and had to adjust it significantly to get my point of impact where my point of aim was at 30 feet.
When I say "significant", the elevation was maxed out and I could maybe turn one more click. There are 12 clicks per revolution and 5.5 revolutions total. That means that with the gun sighted in at 30 feet I could literally only adjust the sight 1 click down and 64 clicks up. At 30 feet this isn't normal is it?
Furthermore I had my windage adjusted all the way to the right. It could go no further. The spring inside the sight was fully compressed.
I'm wondering if someone from S&W is playing a joke on me as my M&P's front sight drifts on it's own and I still need to send that gun in for repair. That gun was brand new as well.
The positives:
It's a great looking gun. The groups were great both off hand and using the shooting bench. Really fun gun to shoot. My girlfriend loved it and she hates guns.
If any of you have this gun, if you wouldn't mind comparing the pics I've taken to yours that would be appreciated. I want to know if what I have is "normal" or if S&W's QA has just really gone down the sh*tter.
The gun
The rear sight from the back. Looks slanted huh? I thought it was my mind playing tricks on me at first.
From the top you can see that the sight is actually at a bit of an angle. The gap at the bottom right is bigger than the bottom left. You can see 2 raised edges on the right of the sight. The sight is definitely touching one of these raised edges. There are no raised edges on the left. The left side of the sight actually hangs off the slide a little whereas the right side does not (Not the adjustable part but the fixed part of the sight)
With the rear sight removed you can see the right side has those raised edges which seem to be filed down on the left side.
You can also see that the hole they tapped for the elevation adjustment screw is not centered in the slide and is offset to the left.
It's hard to tell from the pics just how far off it is, but if you hold it in your hand and simply look down at it you'll notice immediately that something is just not right.
Another pic of the hole that is off center. Again pics do not do it justice. It's very easily recognizable in person.
The amount of adjustment needed for my windage to be correct. (See the blade on the bottom. The spring is fully compressed and cannot go any further)
