Howdy.

Anyone with a NEF in .22 shoot CB's out of theirs? I'm had a single shot bolt action 22 (an old 121) that I had borrowed from a friend. He wanted it back.

Thus, my search.

I used the old 121 single shot to plink out of my back door in the middle of the winter at steel targets.

I don't need a tack driver, but I need something reasonable accurate.

My Savage won't shoot CB's with ANY accuracy at all. I have some .22 semi-autos, but those are a pia to load as a single shot.

Has anyone shot a NEF single shot with .22 CB's? Does it work? Is the accuracy in the ball park?

I'd simply buy a box of CB's and try it. If the gun likes it, great; if not, it could be just that particular NEF. Rimfires seem notorious for liking certain brands; I'm not sure if it's loose tolerances on the ammo or the barrel itself.

Also, you can always try finding a used bolt action at the next gunshow. Usually the barrel will state what the gun can fire; I want to say even the tube-fed bolt actions will handle shorts without issue. You don't have to pay a lot to buy used 22 rifles, especially if they are missing the magazine (which is how I bought mine--I figured, it'd work fine as a single shot, and it does).
