NES, Ukraine style

All this civilians of Ukraine holding guns for the camera is good for show but how are they realistically gonna fare going up against significantly better trained standing army? With hours and days of training vs weeks and months? They're gonna get smoked lol. It's not like civvies have a whole back end of air and fire support either. What do they think is gonna happen when the Russian army realizes partizans have tooled up? When they come up to you and you still have a gun in your hand, no gulag for you - you'll just see the back of the nearest wall and that's it. All this shit is to manipulate and guilt trip the US to drop trillions of dollars and send in our world police standing army to take pity on them.

Oh yeah Russian army treating Ukrainian civilians taking up arms against them will not be as 'nice' as we were against the VC and NV irregulars.
Man, this post didn't age well.

You remember when Russia had their army lined up at the border, Ukraine did all these photo ops of civilians holding wooden AKs and being trained as last resort militia? Turns out most of the Ukrainian civilian men women and children didn't actually have to take up arms after all. Many volunteered obviously but it wasn't anywhere near a total mobilization of babushkas.

they are not foto-ops, those were real classes offered to anyone on safe firearms handling, hence you don't really need live ammo or guns.

At that point it wasn't clear how things would go.

This was also a real photo, some literally dropped their kids off at the train station to have them evacuated to Poland.

it's pretty sad.

Sad indeed. Better to be over prepared than under prepared I suppose. At the beginning of last year, no one knew Russia was going to have this much difficulty raping a country. Ukraine's forces look nothing like it did back in 2014 when the little green men just rolled right in.

why? it was predicted not to be easy, mostly because of the type of the contingent of troops russia used and the factual contingent of pro ex-mercenaries on the ukraininan side who came home from abroad plus their existing troops matured in conflict over donetsk. those were 2 very different forces.

i think the idea putins generals had was to keep using expendable untrained asian teens to wipe out most of existing ukraininan fighters before moving better army resources in, but it all kinda failed, rather spectacularly. and ukraine forces had managed to replenish and establish better training conveyer during that time to keep up their numbers, boosted morale and still have no issues getting enough volunteers.

there were many clips on that point showing how ukrainian troops were doing area cleansings with russian troops running away in terror - it is difficult not to appreciate. a properly trained force vs kids. then vs ex-convicts. then - who knows what.

plus the overall state of russian army is a demoralized shit at this point, which also matters a ton.
