The cops in my town all had signs in there yards opposing the new HR4627292094 whatever they changed the number to pending law… until the LEO carve outs were added then… poof no more signs.

The roster is a restriction on dealers. LEO or anyone in MA can buy anything they want not on the roster if a dealer will sell it. But there is no loophole or exemption for MA dealers when selling to law enforcement. California has a blanket exemption for police from the roster. MA does not.

Dealers must also comply with consumer safety regulations, specifically 940CMR16. Consumer safety regulations to not apply to law enforcement. In practice this means a dealer can sell a glock to law enforcement while they cannot to a random LTC holder. Glocks are on the roster but have been deemed an unsafe consumer practice to sell/transfer.

Law enforcement is exempt from the magazine capacity restriction though can only carry while on duty. But there are no exemptions for anyone, including dealers, to sell/transfer large capacity feeding devices. There are also no exemptions for the importation into the state of large capacity feeding devices. A strict reading of MGL 140 131M shows no legal way for LEO to GET a magazine over 10rds between restrictions on transfer and importation even though they are exempt

Law enforcement is exempt from the assault style firearm restrictions but again, no way to get new ones into the state.

But back to the original question, NO, there are no exemptions for LEO from the roster.

FYI. Nobody I know supports this. I think they should all go to jail if they commit crimes, lie, perjure. There is no place for that in this profession. Makes my job very difficult.

Harder to give passes to guys who have a had a few beers on way home. Can’t drive them anymore, call a cab, a friend or an uber. We are under constant scrutiny. Rightly so.

I would like to go back to the days where you got a kick in the ass by the beat cop who then called your parents who in turn gave you a second beating. No arrest. Good all day in my book.
