My C&R FFL arrived yesterday :) It only took a month which is awesome.

What would YOU buy and why with a shiny new C&R?

I really like the M1 and I'm looking for a good shootable M1. It has to be a Springfield Armory M1 as my office is in the old Springfield armory building. It would be nice to bring one 'home' to where it was made.

I would get a nice M1 Carbine as an M1 you can still get via the CMP without the need for a C&R at a great price. They currently don't have Springfields for less than $900 available but there are still some left in their inventory. It all depends on your taste. You can get some really cheap Mosins too out there. I love my C&R so have fun.

On second thought....get both!

First acquisition should be a BOUND BOOK. Secondly, read up on your obligations as a HOLDER of a C&R FFL. Then go shopping for guns.

This question was asked by another person about 1 week ago.

Bound book has been ordered should be here in a couple days.

Do you have a link for the question a week ago? My search-foo kinda sucks

Simple to search . . . Go to Advanced Search, choose Posts (as opposed to threads), put "Bound Book" (with quotes) in search term, LenS for User and voilà, it comes up as the 3rd hit. Post #1886 in the above-mentioned link.

So now you know how to do an effective search of the forum!

Real noob question here (what questions of mine aren't noobish?) but is there a difference between a C&R FFL and a C&R? I have my C&R, but I was under the assumption that it only means I can buy an 'antique' rifle not that I can sell them?

Edit: I think I'm confusing the FFL part with an FFL firearms dealer. I think he just means C&R license (which means you can't conduct business in selling firearms)

The C&R license is an FFL03. It is a federal license, but it is intended for collectors, not dealers.

Before I bought anything, I'd send copies of my C&R to all of the vendors that I usually buy parts and supplies from. Most of them will give you a nice dealer discount on any future purchases, and it's easy to get your $30 back in no time. Many of them have an FAQ regarding C&R, but for those that don't you can just give them a call or shoot them an email. Well worth it.

Congrats on the C&R!

Unlimited funding? The list is endless. But here's my top 20 to give you an idea:

1. Webley MkVI in true .455
2. Swedish Mauser M1896 long rifle
3. M1892 Lebel revolver
4. Berthier rifle, 1907/15 would probably be the easiest to buy
5. Carcanos, collect all of those
6. A real TT-33, not a Norinco, not a Romanian TTC, not a Polish wz. 33; a real, Russian TT-33
7. Some sort of full auto gun; there are full autos on the "list"
8. SMLE No. 1 MkIII*, just be careful about buying an Australian one
9. FN 1910 or 1910/22
10. Colt Official Police .22 revolver
11. Astra pistol
12. C96
13. A Colt M1911 or M1911A1
14. Imperial (pre 1917) Mosin
15. M1897 Trench gun
16. Fianna Fail marked Lee Enfield; No. 1 MkIII or No. 4 Mk1/Mk2
17. MAS - 36
18. Vz. 24
19. SVT 40
20. RIC Carbine

Take a trip to pack and postal in lancaster MA. By far best shop for C&R items here in mass. I don't have the number handy but call first. He is not a full blown walk in store.
If you want a M1 garand order one through the cmp. Order a HRA with a note that you will accept a SA if they have one. Your next best deal would bexpack and postal. Garands are hit or miss in gun shops be pre pared to pay more.

My list revovles around the inexpensive surplus stuff.

there's some nice sks's out there like new condition
Of course you cant go wrong with a 91/30 sadly I have not seen any ammo locally for less than 160$/440
Then there's a complete list in your packet that you can just go through and see. I'm just getting into the Swiss rifles which can still be had for under 400.00
good luck happy hunting..

1907 Husqvarna in 380 acp.

Like a colt 1903/1908 but better because it has a last round slide hold-back.
Also a longer barrel.

I wish it came in .357 sig.

1. Polish P64 police pistol 9mm mak
2. Tokarev 7.62x25 (Yugo or Polish)
3. M44 - Bud's had pairs in consecutive serial and import numbers that come with Russian owners manuals- really nice.
4. SKS

1.) M1 2.) M1A. 3.)WWII 1911. 4.) Colt 1903 5. Polish M44 5. P-64 6.) K98 Mauser bent bolt sniper. 7.) M/N 91/30 bent bolt sniper. Just my $.02

Just an FYI. Make a spitload of copies of your C&R and mail / fax / scan them to Brownell's, Midway, Royal Tiger and Century Arms in Florida. You'll receive a dealer's discount (10-15%). Also, bring them to gun shows. It saves tome on background checks for C&R qualified purchases

Don't you need to FFL handguns regardless of age?

If you are the holder of a C&R FFL, you are the "FFL" for purchases of any C&R qualified guns (usually >50 years old, but some are newer and specifically approved by BATFE) and thus don't have to go thru a dealer . . . meaning that the EOPS List and AG Regs aren't applicable as long as NO MA DEALER is involved.

I learn something new every day here.
