Got a letter in the mail yesterday from this organization, looking for support in killing NH HB1635... the letter was of the "This bill bans guns everywhere" type, asked me to contact my reps and asked for a donation to fight...of $500!!! [shocked]

I had never heard of these guys, has anyone else?

I've heard them speaking at the NH statehouse hearing on gun related bills. I got a good impression of them. $500 does seems a bit forward for a solicitation but, not unreasonable. I think the weekly NRA letter most people get likely has a donation checkbox of multiple amounts that include $500 (ie $20, $50, $100, $200, $500, etc). I'd be curious what they are looking to do with a $500 donation. Running newsletters and websites costs money but not likely $500 per member. I'm assuming they are looking to fund legal services. If I was going to give that much I'd want to know what it was going for. There are two other major groups in NH, GoNH and Pro-Gun NH. I think its good that there is more than one NH group because different ideas and tactics can originate from each of them. The antis will have more than one group to try to smear.

HB1635 "prohibits the open carrying of a pistol, revolver, firearm, or other deadly weapon in a public building." It's a further geographic expansion of the State House ban, HB1654 (which although dead, is still in effect by virtue of an 8-member majority of the Facilities Committee). Its only saving grace is that it doesn't try to define "public building" broadly enough to encompass all private businesses.

NHFC is another break-away from GONH. Been around since '03. Occasionally hysterical. Occasionally the (justified) lone voice. Sort of the GOA/JPFO of NH gun groups, IMO. You can see their testimony at my above-linked blog post on HB1693, which would overrule the Facilities Committee's hubris.

NHFC is the only group to not give in on bills. Sometimes this upsets the other gun groups. In the end, you need to hold your ground or risk losing what you are fighting for.
FWIW: I am a member.

Take a look at the UL (Union Leader) about the New Boston Chief who stepped out of line. None of the other groups went after him. It takes money to mail the entire town to bring to light the acts of a Chief that is not following the RSA's.
