Just saw a campaign contribution request for a retired Army General who is in the primary to challenge Shaheen in the upcoming Senate election, Don Bolduc.

Any thoughts on him?

I don't know much about either, but for what it's worth Messner has Trump's endorsement as well as the National Association of Gun Rights. The endorsements look pretty split, not that I give them much weight.
Haven't researched them both enough yet.
