Ok, I know its been gone over ad nauseum but has anyone ever worked out pro-vs-cons for the 3 choises for living in a gun freindly area? I am just starting to look around for a vacation (becomeing a year round living) place in one of the 3.

No, I am not looking for a bug out location per-se but that the type of location I would love (quiet, private, large amount of land, good hunting, access to the civilised world only when I want it, that kind of thing). I know next to nothing about all 3 states but I know I want to leave Ma as soon as realistic. My plan is to wait anouther year so all the people who are freaking out and buying up the good plots will realise they over bought and have to sell...

Any thoughts?

On Guns VT wins hands down IMO. I'll take the no suppressors, with no permit. No permit is the way it should be, coming from MA permitting BS doesn't faze people but it should.
That said guns ain't everything, VT has the same cost of living as MA, wages, job opportunity, and schools(don't believe the rankings) all suck big donkey balls. Also VT probably has as many inane laws as MA just that there is no one enforcing them. Very, very liberal place the state turnout for Barry was #2 in the country and wait until you start hearing the press releases from their socialist senator who wins reelection by landslides.
Maine is #6 in the nation in welfare per capita, for comparison MA and NY are in the twenties. Total compromise some semi civilized part of NH is probably best. But your best bet is to get the fruck out of the Northeast. All of the Northeast is screwed, from public pension debt, crippling bureaucratic rules/taxes, and the killer: demographics. There is no hope for the Northeast, long term plan should be somewhere else. The demographic issue is the population age and lack of young people, not hating on old people, but old populations are unsustainable from a state budget point of view. Oh yeah VT is one of the oldest states with one of the lowest birthrates.

NH - No Income tax, No sales Tax, easiest conceal carry permit i've ever gotten (10 dollars, 3 day wait for me), legal open carry, ALL NFA is legal, including suppressors.

NH hands down. VT is a close second followed by ME.

The one VT ding is the NFA ban (at least suppressors, not sure about AOWs, etc.)

And NH is probably an election cycle away from Constitutional Carry. I think Rep. Howell (NES handle: design) recently filed legislation for this session to try to get it into law.

Aside from still requiring a permit (which is so cheap and easy to get that it's no obstacle at all), NH has the best gun laws in the entire country. Even so-called Constitutional Carry states all suffer from something in comparison, whether it's places off limits, or lack of strong preemption.

If we consider knives, there simply is no comparison, because NH has no knife laws at all.

BTW, its spelled Rhode, no the type you drive on. If we didn't have the ban on suppressors, I would of voted for RI

sorry, that was just my little dig at the state. My wife works there (and knows people in the goverment down there) and I am always trying to mess with them about it not really counting as a state (its like delaware without the tax free shopping).

I'm going to vote NH here as well. Maine's NR application reads like a lawyer on too much caffeine, and MA has, well, issues all its own. NH seems the most friendly and the state I spend the most time in after the PRMA.

yea thats occurred to me to me, but the second most likely place to move to would Md/Del (which is even worse with Va in a distant 3rd. Its all about being close to family right now. Now IF i could talk the wifes family into moveing to Va or even further south I would do it in a heart beat (Both the wife and I like the ocean to much to move to far inland).

Google for the paper "Freedom in the 50 States". Nice comparisons for the liberty-minded.

Good data comparison;

Freedom in the 50 States | Mercatus

I say N.H. all the way for now, although it seems like for every year that goes by, N.H. becomes a little more like Mass [sad2]

How can it be when NYC and all it boroughs is larger than RI

I love Maine though I may be a bit bias. I have everything form 22's to mg's and love it here. Maine is a odd state as we are almost two states. South of Bangor is like mass north of Bangor is Maine. I live WAY up here in the land of the free. No neighbors free to shoot in my yard all I want. Carry permits are VERY easy of the town does them if the state police do it for you're town a bit extra paperwork and allot more time. No crime to speak of though drugs are the big thing.

Have to remember, although they have no ccw required, suppressors are illegal. NH is a shall issue CCW state that is 10 dollars and very very fast. ALL NFA is legal and we have zero knife laws.

If you get a gun permit you are licking your master's balls.[laugh]

Guess this choice will very with depending on if your looking for employment. I grew up on Cape Cod (family all still there) and now live in Maine. (got out of the service here and didn't leave) I can only compare MA, and ME and as much as I love the Cape the laws, and BS in MA and not for me. I love ME but NH has an edge.

Maine mg's suppressor's and nobody cares how many rounds you're mags hold. A picture is worth a thousand words.

VT's ban on suppressors takes them out of the running in my book.

Essentially no difference in gun laws between Maine and New Hampshire. Make your choice based on other criteria.
