Reading up on the new Para Ord single stack 1911..GI Expert

http://www.para-usa.com/new/product_expert.php

Looks like a model to compete with the Springfield Mil Spec and the Taurus. I like the look and it seems priced reasonably at 599 MSRP. Prices I have seen seem to be settling in the low $500's.

I like what I see so far and would consider getting one.

This "should" be Mass compliant shouldn't it be? [thinking]

Anyone guess or speculate?

I would love to get one also.

Gun is only mass compliant if Para goes through the trials and prove is passes the Mass specs for a "safe gun".

i like the no-frills look. but I've been reading about Para O's on here and 1911 forum that they are POS jamomatics

Para has had many of its models approved so this one will likely be tested as well. $599 MSRP is an excellent price for a new 1911.

The thing is, disregarding the problems with Para's in general out of the box. They don't take all standard 1911 parts. So even using one as a base gun to build on isn't going to work out so well. The parts for them are fewer in selection, and more expensive from what I've seen while working on my S&W.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I am also curious as to what parts Para uses that are proprietary? I know probably in their LDA's but in the plain single actions?

I would really just be looking for a basic KISS 1911 that I can do minor customizing too, and the only over the counter choice seems to be Rock Island (an maybe this one if approved) in MA...apart from that its find a private sale of a Springer, Colt etc.

I like the look of S&W's but I am not 100% sold on the external extractors in 1911 design. Its not so much I am a purist and its not to say they do not function well, maybe it is a non issue. But I like the ability to replace as much as I can if it breaks by myself and not have to ship or send it out.

As Vellnueve stated I was incorrect.

I know when buying parts for my 1911 I saw a lot of parts that said they wouldn't work with para's. They may have meant that they wouldn't work for the double stacks. I just looked and can't seem to find that info again.
My apologies for the shinfo

I forgot. I would avoid any Para with the "new and improved" extractor. My limited experience (one pistol, an LDA Carry Model) showed me that this part was inferior to the original. The problem is that you are stuck with the new design; the stock 1911 extractor won't fit.
