Hello. I'm new to shooting, and recently received my Class B license. I am interested in purchasing a .22 and a 9mm for target shooting with my daughter. The Class B limits the 9mm choices, but I would appreciate any recommendations that you could suggest.

Thanks.

For a .22 you'd probably do well with either a Ruger MKII or III or a S&W 22 (I can only assume you meant a handgun as opposed to a .22 rifle). As for the 9mm, I can't say that I'm familiar enough with the regs to make a good suggestion. I'd just as soon suggest you go for a wheel gun to avoid any potential confusion.

Not to be too nosy, but where are you located &/or how did you manage to get a Class B? I've been given the impression by many that very few towns will ever issue an LTC B due to the potential for confusion.

Edit: Looks like someone more knowledgeable beat me to the punch

Thanks for the responses. TWtwommers, the thread was very helpful. I have been shooting the Ruger MKIII at American Firearms School in Attleboro. From my experience, and what I have read on the forum, it seems like a very reliable gun. I've read and heard that the Walther and Sig Misquito .22's are somewhat less reliable in some opinions, but i may rent them if available and see how they feel. I am considering a 9mm because i have read that ammo is generally readily available and pretty reaaonbly priced. MA laws are a mess.

Thanks

Question: WHy would someone apply for a class B license? Are they easier to get or something? I'm just curious because it seems to me that you might as well get a class A if you are going to bother.

Some really bad towns B-ram, so you might not have a choice. They will go " You can accept an LTC-B or you'll get nothing, peon!"

Of course, what I would do in that case is obtain a lawyer and see if a forced downgrade from an A can be treated as a denial for an A, and take them to court over it.

The other alternative is....

Canton. Black town. From everyone I have spoken to, including my firearms instructor (who is a retired town cop), it's almost impossible to get a Class A in this town on first application. For home protection, 9mm even if 8 capacity will work for me. drgrant describes the situation pretty accurately.

Thanks

I always considered Black to be "No Issue/Nearly impossible" but if Canton B-rams and doesn't ever allow an upgrade, then it's probably one of the top 10 worst cities in the entire list. I wonder if there are still any towns that try to blow off people entirely... I think there are a few places that won't issue any LTC without employment letters, etc... those are "black" IMO.
