Are there any gun clubs in the Newton area? Looks like Wayland is the closest but its still a good 15mi away.

Wayland is not worth the drive compared to Harvard. I quite literally live 5 minutes from Wayland, and I'll drive to Harvard anytime without complaining.

Wayland isn't a very good club, not sure how Woburn is, heard it is rather Pricey, have a friend who also lives 5 min from Wayland's and goes to Harvard... Loves it there.

Woburn is $240 for your first year ($100 initiation and $140 for the first year), however annual renewal is $140 - $70 if you do work hours during the course of the year. $70 a year for a club that offers quite a bit seems pretty fair to me. Work hours are easy! Help with an event or the clean up day and you're good to go!

Thanks for the feedback. Probably should have mentioned that the most important aspect, at least to me, is proximity to Newton. We may be moving there part-time in the future. I do most of my shooting up here in NH but when I am in MA I still like to head to the range when I have free time. I've been a member of Lawrence R&G since I was a kid, and if I need to drive 30min to the closest range in Newton I might as well just drive another 15min and shoot at Lawrence. I really don't care about fancy facilities, long ranges, attitudes of members or even fudd rules so long as it is close to Newton and allows lead reloads (an indoor range would be really nice but not a deal breaker).

I did a google earth search and westwood didn't even show up; good thing I'm asking here. Seems intriguing, I'll look into it more. What is wrong with Wayland? Are there any tiny little clubs in Newton or very close by that are just not well known?

That is cheap... I guess my statement was based off of the first year, I really don't know much about the club, only know someone who is a member, so I guess the first fee is all that stuck in my head.

Indeed. The first year is a little steep, but if you stay for a few years it all balances out.

If you find anything closer than Westwood, please tell me!

back from the grave! will be moving to newton in the fall. any info on local clubs would be greatly appreciated. i belong to MRA in woburn (about 40 mins from newton center where i will be) but would love an option say 15 -20 mins preferably outdoor with steel available

With no traffic, HSA is just under 30 min from exit 17 on the pike. HSC is about 35-40 min from the same spot if you also take 128 to rt 2. Both are great clubs with outdoor steel.

With traffic Harvard is an hour, and I haven't been to Hopkinton except for weekend matches when there is no traffic.
