Newton Gun Shop getting pushback

Some of the most jaw dropping anti-semitic statements I have ever heard in my life have comes from white progressive liberals. It only leads me to believe with every passing day that they are the true racists of our society.
They are without a doubt .
What they say when they think no one is listening is far , far different from the public persona.

It would be interesting to see how they would do. Obviously the towns with the highest number of LTCa are in western MA. But, a smaller percentage of gun owners in a rich town might still might be enough for a successful small business.

Mendon tried to do the zoning change thing in order to keep a strip club from opening up on the Hopedale line. After a costly court battle the town lost and it looks like Mendon will have a brand spanking new strip club in the near future.

Same thing will most likely happen if Newton tries to keep the gun store out via zoning.

I think you're not taking a world view. I've met some Israeli Jews that would show otherwise, and obviously some in the US as well. And there are plenty of liberal Christians who are lined up for the boxcars.
It's not a religion thing.

This^
The Jews in Israel have a much different view on gun ownership than the majority of those here in the US.
My dad took a trip to Israel in the early 90's and told me he saw people carrying guns everywhere, it's a way of life, and nobody was freaked out by it.

Totally and 100% agree. I've heard some things said by white liberals that would make a black person think twice of asking for help from white liberals. I'm thoroughly convinced that 19th century racism is alive and well and living in the current political left. What kills me is that these white liberals have minorities snookered with language like "I'm one of you", "I feel your pain", "I stand for the little guy".

Lol all of the Newton antis? You mean the entire city? (Minus about 10 people). I hope he succeeds but that's about the last place I'd think about a shop. Needs to be on 128 not inside the foul trash urban cup.

I think you're wrong. It should be fun leaving this store in the middle of commie land with a brand new rifle in hand and hand gun in a shopping bag. The more the better.

Not only that, but people need to see that robberies and shootings in town will not increase because a gun store is located there. You wont have crack whores and pimps walking the streets either. (Except for all the NES pimps).

From what they are posting and commenting on these things they are going to give a lawsuit all the ammo it needs. They are calling for the mayor and council to make this go away and when the idea of zoning came up they shifted to "That's great, but only if it makes sure that the zoning only allows them in such restrictive situations that they can't operate anywhere in town". They are really clear that they don't give a shit about what the law is and step one was doxxing the store owner, and the landlord and they are calling for a pressure campaign on them to stop the gun store. They actually floated the idea of boycotting the local ice cream place because the building was owned by the same landlord.

Which cycling back to changing zoning for a gun shop, they are willing to change the laws on the fly to suppress people and things they dislike. That's only going to get worse. What's next? Can't open a store if you aren't woke enough? "Oh, you have to do your disfavored business in the designated ghetto"... can't they see the road to Hell they are laying brick by brick?

They see it, they don't care even a little. They are way past reality. One of them wants to use this somehow as a way to overturn Heller, they are certain that they are in the right and laws be damned gun stores don't belong anywhere.

Two unrelated observations.

First. Newton isn't a Jerusalem-on -the-Charles. I can't find trustworthy data but I'm positive that less than 20% of Newton population are Jewish.

Second. The city administration seems to believe that zoning change is a valid legal way to prevent a business that has already applied for a permit from opening. That's from the Newton Mayor's daily or weekly address:

" Like many of us, I am deeply concerned about a firearms store which has started taking the steps to potentially open in Newtonville at 709 Washington Street near many homes and restaurants and proximate to schools. I brought together our team at City Hall to brief me on our options.

What is the process moving forward for the proposed zoning amendment?

The City Council will assign the proposed zoning amendments to the appropriate committees at its meeting on Tuesday, April 20 and also assign a public hearing date. It is likely that the matter will be assigned to the Zoning and Planning Committee (ZAP) for a public hearing on May 10, 2021. At the public hearing, the Council will hear input from the public. It will then discuss the draft language, potentially make revisions, and ultimately recommend that matter to the full City Council for a final vote to approve the zoning amendments.

In general, zoning is prospective and would not limit ongoing uses and businesses that are already operating.

However, the State Zoning Act, Chapter 40A, does state that any approved zoning amendment will apply to any use/business that has not commenced prior to the publication of notice of the public hearing for the zoning amendment.

It is expected that the City Council will provide notice of the public hearing in the newspaper on April 26 and May 3, 2021. Practically speaking, if there is a proposed firearm dealer use that has not started operating by those dates, it will be subject to the proposed zoning amendments whenever those amendments are passed.

Why are we not prohibiting gun stores everywhere in Newton?

The City Council has broad authority to regulate all land uses in Newton, including the location of firearms dealers. That said, in light of the nature of the issues and the implications of Constitutional protections, it may be reasonable to expect that the more restrictively firearm sales are regulated, the more likely such regulations will be subject to a court challenge."

I don't believe that data.

If it's only 20-30% now, the other 40% that lived there have moved out to other cities or states in the past ten years.

Need to make any pro gun residence aware of this public hearing. Also I wonder if GOAL or Comm2A are aware or helping. Anyone know who the store owner is? I would love to give any support we can.

Whatever the number, if Jews wanna arm up enough to support a gun store smack dab in the middle of LibTard Utopia-ville, I say all the power to em. Heck, we could setup an “Armed & Jewish” section of the board here for em.

I'd support it too....but that is not even remotely the case here.

Given historical circumstances, Newton jews should be mailing the gun store applicant donations and depriving Newton politicians financial support......but they routinely vote/ act against their own beneficial interests.

as I noted above they tried that in Wilmington with the detox and failed, bigly...the lawyers said that if the zoning allowed for it when the application was submitted then there was nothing the town could do to stop the approval so long as everything was in order and aligned with the original zoning of the site.

Will be interesting to see if they can block it using this approach, sounded like the Detox could also use other provisions to push it through that I am sure a gun store won't have in their favor.

Although I have found their population data out in left field for some towns (multiple towns of 20-25K listed as only 5-7K), here's what data I can find.

They only list Christian religions, but "Other" would included Jewish religion, only 4.6%.

However, they list No religion for a large number of people. I suspect that "None" really means "refuse to list it" wherever City-Data draws their info from.

Question I have: is the Newton Police Chief really handing out LTC's? Without that having a local FFL is kinda mute.
Sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking.
If your question is if it possible to get a LTC in Newton, the answer is yes. The current SOP seems to be T&H for new applicants, restriction lifted upon licensee's request after a year. The application process is consistent with the state requirements with no extra BS. People that I helped to navigate the process had to wait a couple of months for an appointment but received their LTC's within 40 days after that.
I personally know a guy with a MG license in Newton and know for sure he's not the only one.

That's pretty much what I found when I tried to look it up. However, I don't know a single person who ever got asked about their religion.

According to research done by anti gun douchebags who want this gun store to go away the number of active LTC's is 1600 and change, I don't know where they got the number, but that's what they believe.

Well, Comm2A was able to get licensing data per town, so it's doable. I don't remember the latest Comm2A number for Newton and not sure they still have it on their site but 1600 sounds about right.

Good discussion, but remember the opposition does not have a shred of liberty in their agendas. These people are leftists.

Stop calling them liberals.

In Newton, "champagne socialists" also is an appropriate designation.

I'm pretty sure that includes renewals. In a world of licensing, renewal is treated as a new license.
300 Class A's every year, considering that LTC is valid for 6 years and some of those are new applicants, gives us a total between 1,500 and 2,000.
